Layne  Staley was a 90's Rock Icon, but like too many from that time. Having it all wasn't enough. Interesting enough I first heard Alice in Chains when I was 15 on acid with friends in Victioria, BC when we snuck into a back of a club and guess who was playing.
  > Alice In Chains, later I found out that is was a regional tour in support of  the **facelift Album** which had their first real taste of success.

 Me and my friends at the time did not realize that we were witnessing some major music history. A bar with less than 50 people in it and we were there. What a time in m life. So young, and still thought I was immortal.
 > was I in for a rude awakening as I grew up.

Alice in Chains had such hits that kids still are falling in love with today, such as *Man in The box, Angry chair, Rooster, Them Bones and of course the cry for help **nutshell**

 This man and his band helped to define the nineties, such movies as singles had the band doing a cameo, playing one of their tunes. 
 As the band got bigger and bigger of the facelift tour Layne got introduced to heroin. Which eventually took his life. but as addiction does it take everything else first. No music, friends, girlfriend, but he did still have his family. I have talked to his mother, she is an advocate for getting of drugs and she is an amazing human. I credit her for part of the reason I went into treatment for my addiction in the first place.

## I am going to keep this short but you look at the above picture from the beginning of this post and you see life, vitality, spirit. Now look at the last picture of him courtesy of his mother at his last birthday.

 He was a hermit, he lived to use and used to live. That was the end result for someone who could have gone on creating amazing songs and being one of the best frontman the rock scene has ever seen.

love it too. I talk to his mother Nancy regularly, she is big in the recovery community due to Layne. She amazing. She was one of the reasons that led me to treatment. Srange and wondrous world we live in.

Though I am not a music fan but what I have heard that a good number of rock star or famous star performer are drug addict. And yet, icon of huge number of fan world wide. Unfortunate.

yes, @hafiz34 unfortunately their is tons of drugs in the music and entertainment biz. I was in some years ago, hanging with some of the people in the 90's and 2000's .I am a songwriter. but, the drugs got me. Thats why you have to keep your circle(camp) tight, because the drugs are good tools of control and drug dealers love being around famous people too.
