There are just not enough spots for the amount of blog posts that are being generated. That is a fact. If a 3k or 5k post got a 1k reduction, that 1k could be used for 100 writers getting 10$ each. It would be better than zero (discouragement). There's a lot of votes piling upon the multi-hundred dollar pieces and the game theory behind it doesn't make much sense because the curation rewards for this are not that much.
