Detroit, the city known for it's bad investments and collapsing real estate, pays this run-of-the-mill schlub $92 million guaranteed?
I don't intend to make the class-warfare argument, but that aspect cannot and will not be ignored by many.
Economically, it is a horrible decision, a poor decision, and a decision without ANY foresight whatsoever. I disagree with the author's assertion that "The quarterback position is the MOST important position in all of sports". If Tom Brady did not have his current O-line, RBs, and WRs, he'd not be as great as he is today. Same with Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers.....the list goes on.
That $92 million could have been spread more "equitably" throughout the team and could have purchased several high value free agents to make the team, as a whole, better. (again, when I use the word "equitably", it's in terms of the existing cap, not some arbitrary sense of "fairness").
