I believe in a mechanistic universe in which everything is determined. If we could know the state of all matter and energy at this point in time, we could predict any future state of affairs. Of course this is impossible due to insurmountable complexity. However, it has become possible to a certain extent and within certain limits using the scientific method... I think that total chaos would imply the complete worthlessness of the scientific method. There would be no such thing as repeatability or controlled experiments.
