It's not about the platform, it's about which social circles you inhabit that determines how open people are to discussion and the exchange of ideas. The monetary incentives make it rather tempting to suppress what one truly thinks about things here, and most opt to stay silent if they can't write anything nice. It's literally all about appearances. Do people want to flag other people? Sure. But they don't want to come off looking like vindictive assholes, or face retribution, which is why it isn't more commonly employed. That plus it eats into your profit margins, which is probably the largest factor.

Low-quality content being voted to the frontpage every day ad nauseam is only a part of what kills this site's chances of being taken seriously, so I'm going to continue calling things like they are, regardless of the $ value attached. The entire structure of the site is a mess and Korean speculation+Tether printing can't keep prices this high forever, so enjoy it while it lasts. Because when markets are booming there's room for any and every kind of speculative gamble, but when capital investment shrinks people start to question what gives something its value, and steemit in its current form will have a hard time passing that test.

Mulholland drive is okay, it's not all that people make it out to be. It's very much in the camp of "make this so confusing people will question everything and attribute more genius to it than actually exists within the piece".
