I hear ya, that's an important aspect in how things could really be further defined. I'm personally in the school that the pattern exists rather independently with the brain merely being the medium for it. Much like the soul is discussed in [this clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzag71pOG1s) from Babylon 5. 

But I'll flat admit this is an area that currently can't be explained and I definitely don't claim to know. Just my best/preferred models of things. :)
