*More than a couple rather Heavy Hitters on here all seem to be having a Synchronized moment of ......"ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!"  No matter if you are brand new or have been here since Steem started, the climate reached a level of toxicity where there are some large players coming out to call for some type of level of ethics and decency.*

Just because this place is decentralized does not mean that basic and fundamental rights that ensure a safer platform are to be ignored.  At times this manifests as very large scam rings and some of the ones preaching love and light the loudest are the nastiest humans I have ever come across.  EVERY SINGLE PERSON I brought into Steemit left after seeing attacks on here that at times equate to Group Stalking and viewing the absolute cesspool that is *SOME* of the trending page.

*If you have the vast majority of users loathing a feature like the trending page then most rational leaders/large stakeholders would remove or change a page that glorifies what amounts to some form of Malginant Narcissism at best. I am not saying all of the Trending Page by any means *BUT* there are obvious and known "Ecosystem Citizens" who basically are blackballed by "Team Good".  Why after pages of SP Delegation Abuse has been written and published are some of the same players STILL at it?*

Perhaps a better question would be, WHY ARE THEY STILL ALLOWED TO GO AT IT? The majority on here do not want censoring and such yet it happens in its own way through other means and the fact that some dolling out SP like candy took no responsibility in how it was used. Bitching about the current Geo-Political system then morphing into that which you preach against is like Stalin giving Mao a lecture on Civic Responsibility...

Yes... this is one of the main reasons I have a hard time with the whole "you must network to get votes" thingy... I have had enough bad experiences in Cyberspace that it makes me very nervous to open myself up to large numbers of people that I don't know very well... So I have mostly just kept to myself and followed a few people who I see to be decent reasonable and kind human beings... It's been a long tough grind... but I sort of feel on my feet now... but I agree with you -- there's a really vicious kind of element lurking if you dig in too deep and many people don't want to get sucked in. :( HUGS

Yeah, I every once in a while I come across a post that scares the bejeezus out of me. I mean, if you piss the wrong person off you might as well say goodbye to your account. Downvote, flag, downvote...there goes all your stuff, just because. How can we as a community come together to change it though? When there's enough whales that just give a middle finger to the ideal which is supposed to be this community?

I have to agree with you.....and have been mulling over what I think the solutions are and it's not simple in my mind. Seems to me that it's human nature rather than a broken system (hmmm....sounds all of a sudden like I'm talking about the system of gov't in the US, lol!) Why people are such greedy scums is truly beyond my comprehension. We have the downvote, flags, etc... but I've always just focused on building the good rather than taking away the problems and I do believe it works to some degree - the good stuff is pretty amazing here. However....when scammers are basically stealing the pool of rewards it's really a problem. So, what to do?!!

how can we who are not developers make a difference? thoughts, ideas?

I have always been a human curator. Not going to lie though, with all this drama. I went to the minnow booster site to check out how much I would get for delegating my SP.. It's a decent amount. Well done!  I've noticed the little wars going on between a couple of people.   Maybe a few trolls, but then I've spent time in the Craig's List forum which is directly opposite of steem.  On Craig's List you have mostly trolls with a few higher life forms here and there.  On this platform you have mostly higher life forms with a few troll-like people, but not what I would call real trolls.

I've been here a couple months and the insincerity is the first thing that stood out. There are people who share thoughtful comments and you can tell they're just trying to get a vote, but at least they put some time and effort into what they're saying.

The group that bugs me are basically e-beggars with lazy, low-effort "thank you for posting"-type content. It's like chicks fishing for compliments and attention on Insta, but instead of putting SOME work into a cute photo they just snap a pic of themselves laying in bed, messed up hair and face pushed back showing off the double chin.

I hardly ever vote on anything on it, to me most of the posts are boring as shit and overpayed but whatever, circlejerking is the survival default mechanism on here, Hell, I am in groups where to post promote my work I upvote others, Yes it is some chat and such but it is a 'community' that also is doing a small scale version of what the big kahunas do......slippery slope, blatant bullshit like my post yesterday points out takes it past an invisible ethics line that seems to exist.  Most everyone on here can agree on certain things at some point "jumping shark"

Hi Dear - you are as always on the money, the problem you share with your friends you brought in is a common one that is a struggle to redress. People come and see the hot and trending pages - many hundreds of SBD rewards for posts that - ok they are good - but that good? And then they work hard to post good quality content..and barely get a few cents $0.2 sbd...over and over. You have to be tenacious to keep going. The offshoot of this is Steemit is loosing amazing content creators left right and centre because they get nothing and get bored trying. The solution - I think the only solution is to have enough people willing enough to be out there finding these struggling accounts with potential and help retain them by supporting and encourage them - one person can't do this - it needs many, and a commitment of time from each.

You just opened my eyes and showed me the big picture.
I've been looking at steemit from my angle, a new steemian grateful for the small rewards ( ok the too small rewards) and hoping *somehow* things will get better. By "things" I mean my own rewards.😏

Now I know what "things" should really get better !

I've been here a while, never look at the trending page. 
I'm also not a fan of soaps but I must admit I have followed some flag wars.
Now I mostly avoid the drama's, read a lot, think a lot, and write some comments, vote on what I like, or the posts that I comment on. 
That's it.
I really like some people here, and I must say that steemit has helped to changes my outlook on things for the positive.......a  lot.
That's been the biggest reward............for me.

Now THIS is the kind of post that deserves an upvote, not the 100s of stupid posts about cryptocurrency, and a single dumb photo that gets upvoted by the dmania bot for $50.

The whole system is basically chrony capitalism.  There is something fundamentally wrong with giving heavier voting weight to those with more (steem) power and money.    

I still have not heard a good reason why my vote should be worth less than  anyone else's vote.  A post that gets 100 votes at a penny each to me would be worth much more than a post that gets 1 vote at $100 because some steem whale like the post (and probably because it was his own post, a friends post, or was just a post that sucked up to him.)

I do see a lot of posts about cryptocurrency. TBH I dont read them much. For one reason, I still dont understand it lol, but another it seems like there are a lot of people that just want to talk about it for the upvotes to make the money. When i see the title and look at the upvotes... they are quite often high... so I leave it alone. Not something I want to get into much. It doesnt feel real or right. Am I missing something on here that I am not understanding? I agree with your comment on 100 votes at a penny being a higher value.

I'm forming my own thoughts on this, and will post them in the next week or two. I'm a little worried, as there's some home truths that I don't think everyone on steemit is ready to hear. 

Your comparison between steemit and the reality of a wider economy beset not just with material inequality, but deep inequality of opportunity - this is apt I think.

All of you are right: The trending page is crap.
How about *TWO* options for trending pages:
The highest $ value ones and the highest # of upvotes?
As for curation awards?
The top 60% of value posts get zero curation awards - that curation value gets distributed amongst the bottom 40% for each category.
Therefore no benefit to piling on and upvoting high value posts.
This might be a solution, or at least something worth considering.
I just write funny stuff to make the world smile each day.

I've just completed my first month on Steemit. I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out the inner workings of this amazing site. This of course lead my to many back allies and dark corners of this blockchain. I have seen hypocrisy's of the highest order from those with much SP attempting to prevent others from doing what they themselves have done. I have seen whales decimate newcomers with an army of bots. These injustices have not gone unnoticed to me, but lacking the firepower (SP) to defend those being trampled or to call out their two faced actions, I have decided to speak out only in generalities, with hope that one day someone with real power would see and act.  

This rallying of the troops(minnows, sea bass, dolphins, and the like.) is promising. For within a large enough war party if one is stuck down, the masses can rise(vote) him or her back up. I don't know if those at the top are willing or even able to fight these wars.(although they should for it's their fortunes that will be lost if our society is to crumble) So the duty seems to fall on us commoners to defend our lands from the Giant's who's hunger seems to be unquenchable.
