<h1><center>The Aviator</center></h1>

<div class=text-justify>

I think that the combination between the director Martin Scorsese, and the actor Leonardo DiCaprio always results in some epic movies, and this one is no exception. Scorsese is just a brilliant director that manages to convey stories into movies like nobody else, and, Leo might not be the greatest actor of all time but, he’s got some of the most diverse and inspiring characters in movie history; the mix between them always turns out great.

</div>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FebPJlmgldE

<div class=text-justify>

What’s fascinating about “The Aviator” is the fact that the main character played by Leo manages to overcome lots of professional challenges, and revolutionize industries, while building pieces of art, against all the troubles that he was facing on a personal level, and all of his mental issues. Moreover, the movie is based on a true story, on a real human being, thus making the lessons we can take out of the film even more valid.

#### Disclaimer: I have to note that these are my opinions, that I took from the movie, but I advise you to watch it yourself, maybe you will feel differently or pick up on something I missed.

</div>

<h1><center>Decisions</center></h1>

<div class=text-justify>

I think that one of the most fascinating things about, not just the character of Howard Hughes but, the actual human behind it, it’s his ability to take tough decisions on the spot. It is well illustrated throughout the movie and can be noticed easily if you know where to look, how fast Howard actually takes decisions, and in what manner.

When it comes to taking a decision, there are two primary schools of thought, those that believe that the right way to decide upon something is by contemplating on that subject for as much as you can, until you find a perfect answer, or you run out of time. And, those that like to take decisions on the spot, and correct their way later if needed. But, which one is the best? I think this depends but, let me debunk both so you can have a better understanding.

First of all, if you spend all of your time thinking about how the right decision might look, contemplating upon the situation then, you might arrive at a specific answer by the time you have to decide but, it might not always be the right one. If you apply this method, you might have some information about the situation, and about your choice in the beginning but, often, not all the information.

</div>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiWlvGijfOQ

<div class=text-justify>

So, if you spend all of your time thinking about the right choice, and deciding in the last second, you might end up making a mistake because certain information will only reveal itself to you once you’ve made the choice but, because you postponed until the last second, you will not have any time left to correct your course.

But, then, if you decide on the spot, based on the information you have at that moment, without spending too much time thinking about your options then, you will most certainly have enough time left to correct your course once all of the information is revealed to you afterward. But, if you want to make fast choices, you both, have to train yourself into thinking fast but, also to be prepared to change your position once something more suited comes along.

Of course, these ways of deciding are not flawless, they both have limitations, and one might work better than the other in a specific scenario; they complete each other.

</div>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiDqiuX9ET4

<div class=text-justify>

The last method might be better, especially in scenarios where you have to pick something that doesn’t end up impacting your life tremendously in the long run, like deciding what to eat or what to wear. In such situations, you should most certainly choose on the spot without contemplating too much because your ability to make great choices in a day is limited, and you can’t waste it on such meaningless things. It is rather funny seeing people struggling, and spending a lot of time deciding what to order at a restaurant since the truth is that it doesn’t matter at all if you get pizza or scrambled eggs so you should pick right away. Most people don’t know this but, you do now so you should be able to choose faster and better next time.

But, if you have to make more impactful, more critical choices, that can’t be fixed easily once they are made, then you should think about the best option based on the information you already have and pick afterward.

A method may work better for some people or, some situations so, you need to choose the one that suits you the best. But, at the end of the day, 80% of your choices might not result in more than 20% of your results so, there’s no point in spending too much time pondering over meaningless things.

<h1><center>Perfectionism</center></h1>

Another thing that you can notice relatively easily is Howard’s desire to attain perfection by all means, in everything that he is doing, regardless if that’s making a movie or reinventing planes, and the flying industry in general. There are many things that he’s doing only because he’s a perfectionist, things that if not done perfectly wouldn’t even get noticed since they are minor.

This perfectionism might be healthy to some extent because it helps people to push themselves to new highs, it helps them get creative and innovate in their fields, and this is not only met in Howard but in other great people of the past. But, at the same time, there’s a destructive side to this perfectionism thing, it’s like a double-edged sword.

</div>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE6duD25qSU

<div class=text-justify>

You see, perfectionism, at its core, is flawed because even if you think that you might want to attain perfection, you actually don’t because that would be a catastrophic event. First of all, acquiring perfection is impossible by definition since life is a constant, living, breathing organism, and trying to pursue it would only result in frustration.

Perfection on its own, means death. Perfection, literally, means a state in which things are at their highest and cannot be improved anymore, they are just perfect. Now, if you would attain perfection, then, you would not be able to improve yourself anymore, you would not be able to change anything else anymore since things are perfect; thus, you are becoming stagnant. And, stagnation, a state in which nothing moves is a state of non-living, a state of death.

Yes, getting better, improving yourself, and trying to become the best version of yourself possible should be a goal on its own but, acquiring literal perfection should be avoided by all means since it only results in stagnation, boringness; death.

<h1><center>Lessons Learned</center></h1>

I always believed that a much-needed factor that can make any movie great, besides an epic story, is having strong, and inspiring characters, and “The Aviator” surely has at least one, and that’s Howard Hughes, and what makes it even more mesmerizing, is the fact that the movie is based on a true story and a real human. I surely urge you to give this movie a watch since it’s one of my all-time favorites.

</div>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUa7ikBHpaI

<div class=text-justify>

You should avoid literal perfection while pursuing self-improvement, self-development, and while training your decisiveness so you can become a person that can take decisions faster, and better since both of these things will result in more free time for you. And having more, and of better quality time should be a goal on its own since this is our most limited and precious resources; these being the lessons I have got from this movie.

</div>

Thank you for reading.

Great post and great review. I must say decision are some of the hardest thing any human being usually come across in his or her mind. Each human being try contemplating about a decision whether it is good or bad or whether it is right or wrong to take and it keeps running through the mind before finally a decision is taken. I must also say that decision taken after a little while patient is still much better that the one taken at the spot like you said. I preferred to think and contemplate more and more on a decision carefully and examine the decision before taking it compare to taking it at that spot immediately because rushing to do something may usually sounds not good at times. I guess the movie must be great and it will be great to have a watch reading the review you have write.

Great movie review, I've been following this your review and I must recommend you for all you've reviewed, I have watched them and I've also picked one or two lessons apart from yours and it's definitely help me throughout my daily activities.

Making decisions is quite a difficult thing to do. Most times we're scared of making the wrong one or making the right one but in a wrong way. Just like you highlighted, if we could make out decision as early as then there are things we should learn on the way.
Definitely what doesn't kills you makes you stronger, so if making a decision won't kill me then a see for no reason delaying.
Thanks so much for this great movie

Unfortunately, not every worthy person has been honored to learn about him through the adaptation of his biography. About Howard Hughes, I did not know anything, but now he has become one of the examples for me. People like him are born very, very rarely. Suffering from mental disorders (what the “mother” helped him with), Howard had a rare sense of purpose, hard work, prudence, ingenuity and constant burden of new discoveries. Let his mental state contribute to this to no small degree. He did not stop at the successes achieved - that for someone it was a ceiling, for him he became another step, followed by an even higher step. All his eccentricity, expressed in huge spending on films, women, airplanes was only one side of the coin, which the other outweighed - Howard did much more for humanity than any oil millionaire who lives in relative modesty.
You will learn about his life with admiration and interest what to think about time unnecessarily. "The Aviator" was filmed in a big way that was needed. Cars, airplanes, costumes and a huge crowd - they did not stint on all this, as well as on the actors. Leonardo DiCaprio looked gorgeous in the role of Hughes, Alec Baldwin was also incredibly good in the background, and besides they were Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, Willem Dafoe, Jude Law!
Without irony and exaggeration, we can say that this film is first about a man who almost lost his head from his ideas, plans and achievements, who was obsessed with his "quarantine code", holding his hands away from germs and who wanted to see in his future only airplanes.
Secondly, this is a film about the fact that no matter how much capital you sacrifice for your business - for the meaning of your life.

True story of the eccentric American billionaire Howard Hughes.
The original scenario of John Logan covers a key period of his life: between the 1920s and 1940s.
Aviator illustrates Howard Hughes' tumultuous private life, including his relationship with two legendary stars: Katharine Hepburn and Ava Gardner.
The film also discusses Hughes' physical disabilities and phobias, his obsessive troubles, his increasingly erratic behaviors that led him to gradually cut himself off from the world and end his life as a recluse.

The film has not left me with endless memories, except that of a grandiloquente aerial scene whose special effects are of more than dubious quality. yet, the story of this guy is still fabulous. I still remember seeing in the movie his giant H-4 Hercules "Spruce Goose" seaplane, which I had the pleasure of admiring at the port of Long Beach, Los Angeles, a few years ago.
