The lava of this volcano is so cold that you can fall and survive

The volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai, in Tanzania, is the rarest in the world; Its name, which means "mountain of God", has a lava so cold that once a person fell into it and survived.

When it erupts, the temperature does not exceed 510ºC, well below the 1000ºC that the lava usually has. It is so cold that the lava is black because there is not enough heat to radiate the usual red color.

In 2007, during an expedition, a person fell into the flow inside the crater. He managed to get out of it, though his arms and legs were severely burned and he had to be hospitalized. Although it may sound awful, it is the only person who can say that it has fallen on a volcano and survived.

Its viscosity is also incredibly rare. Thanks to the lack of silica molecular chains, this lava flows like water, and is poured with relative ease, at about 10 kilometers per hour.

Unlike most lavas, which are based on silica and oxygen, it contains a large amount of alkaline elements - mainly calcium and sodium - along with a large amount of carbon dioxide, causing it to erupt with such coldness .

Ancient humans and even some of our evolutionary ancestors have strayed from this volcano. Every time ash erupts, the ash disgusts the landscape, and its remains are often preserved for thousands of years: some time ago, experts found footprints of more than 18,000 years ago in ash from the same volcano.
