On the way from Banda Aceh to Lhokseumawe (Indonesia), we stopped at Seulimum (Aceh Besar) for lunch. My best friend, a man who likes vegetables, chooses a simple restaurant typical of Aceh Besar in Seulimum because it has fairly decent vegetables and it is not unusual in a typical Aceh diner.

I ordered the goat curry and my best friend ordered the fish with vegetables. It was 14.25 WIB. It's a bit late for lunch. No wonder there are not too many people in the restaurant. Plenty of empty tables on the inside. We chose a place inside to be free of pollution and noise.

However, there is another pollution inside. Apparently, the restaurant is cooking in the traditional way and it is often present in typical restaurants. They still use firewood that puffs up the smoke to the inside. So, pretty annoying.

Finally, we chose at the front desk. There are only four tables outside and three of them are full. One table left, filled with a man. Choosing the place in front of the man, I smiled slightly and nodded kindly to him. That's when I had time to look at his face. The skin is black and looks filthy. Her hair was a bit long curly and slightly tangled. His clothes were rundown. I can not pay any more attention, it's not polite. But just looking at a glance and taking a quick look at the meal, I can conclude that the man is filthy and shabby.

Surely not comfortable eating in front of people like that. I focus on food and ignore the man. Since he was at the table first, he must have finished first.

After hand washing, the man cleans the table with a tissue. It leaves no trace of a single drop of water. Grain of rice and splash of soup is also not seen anymore. The table looks like it has never been used. Who would have thought, slum men even have a culture that is clean and civilized.

We often judge a person from the outer shell. In fact, the skin does not always reflect the content, such as the above message that we have often heard; don't judge the book by its cover. A man who cursorily looks like a beggar, even demonstrating cultural nobility.

Contrary to the scenery of Aceh Besar's typical restaurant, on the way back we saw the skins of fruits and plastics sliding out of luxury car glass. The passengers made Banda Aceh - Medan roads into trash cans. I want to record the scene. But the bad moments only happen a moment. Instant but can cause bad effects forever.

#  Kulit tak Selalu Mencerminkan Isi
###  “Don’t judge the book by its cover”

Dalam perjalanan dari Banda Aceh menuju Lhokseumawe, kami singgah di Seulimum (Aceh Besar) untuk menikmati makan siang. Sahabat saya, seorang yang senang dengan sayuran, memilih rumah makan sederhana khas Aceh Besar di Seulimum karena memiliki sayuran yang lumayan lengkap dan itu tidak lazim di sebuah rumah makan khas Aceh. 

Saya memesan kari kambing dan sahabat saya memesan ikan dengan sayuran. Waktu sudah menunjukkan pukul 14.25 WIB. Sudah agak terlambat untuk makan siang. Tidak heran bila tidak terlalu banyak orang di rumah makan tersebut. Banyak meja kosong di bagian dalam. Kami memilih tempat di dalam agar terbebas dari polusi dan kebisingan. 

Namun, ada polusi lain di dalam. Ternyata, rumah makan itu memasak dengan cara tradisional dan itu sudah sering terdapat di rumah makan khas. Mereka masih menggunakan kayu bakar yang mengepulkan asap sampai ke bagian dalam. Jadi, cukup mengganggu.

Akhirnya, kami memilih di meja depan. Hanya ada empat meja di luar dan tiga di antaranya sudah penuh. Satu meja tersisa, diisi seorang lelaki. Karena memilih tempat di depan lelaki itu, saya tersenyum tipis dan mengangguk ramah kepadanya. Saat itulah saya sempat memerhatikan wajah lelaki itu. Kulit wajahnya hitam dan terlihat dekil. Rambutnya agak ikal panjang dan agak kusut. Pakaiannya pun kumuh. Saya tidak bisa memerhatikannya lebih lama, itu tidak sopan. Tapi hanya melihat sepintas dan memerhatikan sepintas lagi ketika makan, saya bisa menyimpulkan bahwa lelaki itu dekil dan kumuh.

Tentunya tidak nyaman makan di depan orang seperti itu. Saya fokus ke makanan dan mengabaikan lelaki itu. Karena dia lebih dulu berada di meja itu, tentunya dia yang selesai lebih dulu.

Setelah cuci tangan, lelaki itu membersihkan meja dengan tisu. Ia tidak meninggalkan jejak satu tetes air pun. Butiran nasi dan ceceran kuah juga tidak terlihat lagi. Meja terlihat seperti belum pernah digunakan. Siapa sangka, lelaki kumuh malah memiliki budaya yang bersih dan berperadaban. 

Kita memang sering menilai seseorang dari kulit luar. Padahal, kulit tidak selalu mencerminkan isi, seperti pesan di atas yang sudah sering kita dengar; _don’t judge the book by its cover_. Lelaki yang sepintas terlihat seperti pengemis, malah menunjukkan keluhuran budaya.

Bertolakbelakang dengan pemandangan di rumah makan khas Aceh Besar, dalam perjalanan pulang kami melihat kulit buah-buahan dan plastik meluncur dari kaca mobil mewah. Penumpangnya membuat ruas jalan Banda Aceh – Medan menjadi tong sampah. Saya ingin merekam pemandangan itu. Tapi momen buruk itu hanya terjadi sekejap. Sekejap tetapi bisa menimbulkan dampak buruk selamanya.
