As an educator, I always try to take care of my way of expressing myself and directing myself, both with the children under my responsibility and with the parents and representatives.
#
Words have a powerful effect, which influences the psychological process of children. Everyone deserves respect and the best treatment, more if they are children.
#
Let us not forget that most feelings of inadequacy have their origin in the unfortunate experiences of childhood. Parents often do not realize the effects that their words and actions produce on their children, as they build or destroy self-esteem.
#
We will be talking about some factors that impede the self-esteem in the child.

### 1 Parents who criticize.

They awaken feelings of rejection in their children. "Stupid child, do not you see that this screw does not go in that place? Even the dumbest realizes that!" The screams, reprimands and constant criticism show the child that his father or mother does not love him or care about his feelings.

Especially parents who have a very low level of self-esteem feel the compulsion to find everything their children do wrong. Children soon realize that it is impossible to please or satisfy them. If the child receives additional censorship or condemnation at school from his teachers and peers, the blow is even more shocking.
#
> We must understand that rejection does not need to be expressed verbally for children to experience it. The lack of recognition or recognition of what they do speaks as clearly as if it had been expressed verbally. Criticism, whether verbally expressed or not, is the most common cause of low self-esteem.

The dominant or bossy attitude of an adult gives the child the impression that he can not complete an assigned task unless his father or mother is there to supervise him. Parents spend a lot of time telling the child what to do, when to do it and how to do it. Authoritarian parents weaken the child's personal dignity. A child who is constantly told what to do develops scant internal controls and lacks faith in his abilities to carry out tasks on his own. All children need training and direction, but not overwhelmingly.

### 3. Excess protection.
It is important, dear readers, to remember that too much protection can also make the child feel rejected because he never has the opportunity to make decisions for himself. Parents can control their children's environment during the first two or three years of life, but after three years they begin to interact with others: with neighbors, with other young children in the neighborhood and later with schoolmates. Parents feel very distressed when others laugh at their children, name them or ignore them. Your first reaction may be to keep them by your side, protect them or defend them. But the only thing they would achieve with that attitude would be to inhibit the child's progress. Your emotional development will be strengthened by learning to endure those small problems.

### 4. Overly solicitous parents with their children.

Let's reflect now on this, friends of the chain of blocks, because it can also happen that overly solicitous parents with their children try to show everyone how much they love them by spending a lot of time. It is true that parents are advised to spend a lot of time with their children, but it is not the quantity but the quality of time that matters the most.

> I know a father who spends hours with his children doing various projects and participating in games, and that seems an example of devotion. But when he's with them, he keeps telling them things like this: "Juan, do not get distracted, because it's your turn. Hurry up!" "Carlos, you have no right to drill, how many times will I have to tell you that this is the right way to save it!" "You should look more closely at your brother when he hits the ball with the bat! You have to learn to move your body correctly when you hit." "You've done a very careless job when polishing the car, I'll have to do it again, but look how I do it, when you do something, you learn to do it right the first time."

In short, this father is telling his children that they are not competent, and the more time they spend with him, the less competent and loved they feel.

### 5. Parents who show a lack of interest in their children.
#
My recommendation to parents and friends of the chain of blocks, be very careful, because there are parents who express their rejection of their children by showing them lack of interest. They send the following message: "Do not bother me with your problems, I already have enough worries, I grow up fast and I leave the house as soon as possible". Parents who lack time or who have been emotionally hurt due to unloving relationships with their own parents are the ones who hurt their children the most.

In addition, our attitudes of acceptance or rejection vary with our moods. If we feel happy with ourselves, we can tolerate many inappropriate behaviors for our children. However, when we have had a difficult day, when we are tired, when we feel sick or when we are not happy, our "acceptance quotient" will fall to a very low level.
#
Some parents are more willing to accept and love than others because of their emotional makeup. Because they love themselves, they feel intimately secure. Others keep very strict concepts about what is right and what is wrong, and find it difficult to accept their children naturally.
#
