Hello, Steemians. It’s Friday today and I want to talk about movies. This week, my muse has been taking a nap. LOL. Since I can’t write anything fictitious at the moment, I’ve been doing what I usually do when block shows its head; watching movies. The current movie on my plate at the moment is the series **13 Reasons Why.** It’s on Netflix and the season two just got released few weeks ago. Netflix releases everything at once so all the episodes are there. I’ll give an overview of the movie and my thoughts on it.

This first season is mostly what happened to Hannah in school, off school and at home. She was a troubled girl. Her parents moved and changed school for her. Her first months at Liberty High School wasn’t a good one. She got into bad situations with boys and also with girls. From Justin who took an inappropriate picture of her and shared it around with the help of his friend Bryce, to Tyler who stalked her and took pictures too. Then, there was Jessica, the first friend she made who betrayed their friendship when she started dating their friend Alex. There was also Shery, Courtney and a host of others who contributed to her reasons for ending her life. She shared how she was abused and raped by a senior. In all that, Clay was the only one who gave her a little hope, but that wasn’t enough.

In season two, The Bakers sued the school for the abuse and neglect even when Hannah reached out to them. Five months after her death, the case went to court. They lost the lawsuit eventually. There was a lot of flash back on the things that happened when she was still alive. Things she didn’t include in her tape. Her classmates got subpoenaed and testified in court. Some told the whole truth, some half truth while some of them lied to save their skins. 

This season killed me, especially when Bryce walked. It said a thing or two about rich and influential white boys – all the privilege and supremacy. He got away with raping Hannah, and when Jessica finally worked up the courage to go to the police and report how he also raped her, he walked too. Heck, he got away from raping his own girlfriend, Chloe. He only got probation. So you can understand my fury. I had to constantly remind myself to calm down, that it’s just a series filled with a whole lot of lessons.

A lot of things happen in high school. This series is an eye opener. Kids do not always talk to their parents and they hardly talk about bullying and sexual assault in school. They were all messed up and most of them couldn’t reach out. The bullies did it because they could. The rapists continued to rape and take pictures. Then there’s Justin, a poor kid picked up by Bryce. They became friends but it wasn’t a healthy kind of friendship. Justin was the white trash while Bryce had all the power. He couldn’t even do a thing when Bryce pushed him out of the room and raped his unconscious girlfriend. But in the end, he took a stand.

Season three promises to be amazing. The final episode of season two shows a  lot of highlights of what is likely to happen in season two. Justin's mum missing, his drug dealer boyfriend coming for Justin for stealing his money. Justin being adopted by the Jensens but still on drugs. Chloe finding out she’s pregnant. And finally, Tyler going to the school dance with guns to shoot them after Montgomery shoved a mop stick up his ass for messing with them. The season won’t be easy to watch.

**PS:** This series is full of graphic depictions of sexual assault and drug abuse. It may not be suitable for your teenage child especially one going through the same thing. If they must watch, please be there or have a trusted adult sit with them. Watch out for your children too. A whole lot of things go down in school. Ask them about it.
