My Shadow & I

I sang to my shadow,
And my shadow listened
As it pursed its sullen lips.

A face impassive,
Its countenance darkened by
What I refused to look into the eyes of:
An imposing audience of one.

Timid I formed melodies, mentally,
That failed to emanate into concrete form.
At that I thought I saw my shadow smirk.

A song without words, still clear through the murky aether,
Patience gathered like vague clouds while my shadow sat.
Confusion was coupled with magnetic destiny while the archons swirled
About their lofty aerie colluding with madness and horror.

I paused;

Observing the gloomy prospect, these layers of grimy repression
Which surrounded me, a graveyard of misguided creation:
Suddenly, irreverently, I laughed aloud a silver sound of bells
And the dim palette of nightmare smeared into vibrance.

The breaking of silence it fortified me:
I viewed the pale translucence of my shadow
And saw the putrid fear upon its face.

My face expressive,
Emboldened by fate's reversal,
I looked my shadow in its sunken orbs
And began my secret song.

I sang to my shadow,
And my shadow listened
As it pursed its sullen lips.
