The Platinum rule is a data driven utilitarian moral heuristic unlike the anachronistic Golden rule
The Platinum rule unlike the Golden rule is a data driven algorithm. Data is taken in as an input to the Platinum rule (preference data) while the Golden rule has no input. For this reason the Platinum rule is utilitarian while the Golden rule is not.

The Platinum rule defined:

**β€œTreat others the way they would like to be treated.”**

vs the flawed Golden rule:

**"Treat others the way you would like to be treated."**

The Platinum rule takes external input so that the output confirms to that input. The Golden rule only takes internal input which in reality isn't actual input. Its merely the self convincing the self how to treat others rather than the self learning from others how to treat others according to the feedback of others.

In my humble opinion, a good algorithm scales with more data examples. In the case of the Platinum rule the better you know your customers preferences the higher the quality of service you can achieve for your customers. If you have perfect knowledge (you know everything about a person) for instance if you can read their mind then of course the Platinum rule is going to be far far superior than the Golden rule. If you don't know anything about your customer and have little to no knowledge then the Golden rule has some utility in that it can use the self as a reference point for a trial and error preference search. In other words you create first a sandwich you would like for the complete stranger in the hope that the complete stranger is similar enough to you that they'd be satisfied with that and you essentially learn when the sandwich is accepted or rejected.

In the current society we have lots and lots of data. It's no longer going to be the case where a persons preferences will be mysterious. Algorithms now know many of us better than we know ourselves and there is data collected all over. So the social utility or social benefit of the Golden rule as a heuristic at least in my opinion is not as great as the Platinum rule. For this reason I disregard the Golden rule and still find the Platinum rule useful.

So true, and in the end, one of the primary reasons why so many marriages end in divorce.

We are so busy treating others as we want to be treated that we frequently don't even bother to confirm that that is what our partner even wants or needs.

I hadn't heard of it referred to as the platinum rule, but I'm in complete agreement.
