Introduction to electronic cigarette gear
This article is going to be a brief overview of electronic cigarettes and their parts, for your better understanding of how they work, and why a lot of people are "hooked" to it.

An e-cig or vape, how people call it these days, has first been patented by an American Herbert A. Gilbert, who in 1963 patented "a smokeless non-tobacco cigarette" that involved "replacing burning tobacco and paper with heated, moist, flavoured air".

There are many types of vaporizers, their mods, and their attachments that we call atomizers.

First of all, there are classic, small eGo electronic cigarettes that have been used mostly in the past, before the electronic cigarette community started getting pretty serious with their "smoking gear". This was in 2006.

These mods consist of a non-changeable battery body, and it's attachment that goes on the eGo connector, that was called a cartomizer back then. It screws on as it is.

Well, since the vaping industry started booming, and needing something more than just a mouth to lung experience with their electronic devices, the "vapes" have been upgraded, and they don't even look like regular cigarettes anymore. Now, e-cigarettes are mostly direct lung, with a lot of vapor.

The old non-changeable battery body has been replaced with box-like devices that have variable wattage and voltage settings on them. They have interchangeable batteries, too.
Today, someone who doesn't know anything about electricity, should not be making coils and using these devices, especially not mechanical mods, that have no protection, and can even explode with improper handling.

These boxes all have 510 connectors, that are going through a chip and then to the battery. The chip is what gives the variable power.
There have been a lot of atomizers made today with these connections, that all screw to mods.

There are many kinds of atomizers, but the first splitting is in non-rebuildable and rebuildable atomizers. Short for this is Non RBA and RBA.
The rebuildable ones are usually cartomizers, that are used by beginners in the vaping world. You put a lot of nicotine in them, and they provide you with a nice mouth-to-lung experience that is needed to a smoker to stop smoking regular cigarettes and get used to vaping.

When the user hits the lower nicotine level, they can move one step up, and try to rebuild their own coils. For this, they need to invest some money. There are many kits that come for $30, but you WILL need to invest at least $70-$100 to get serious in your vaping gear.

First, you need to buy a mod. Mods go from $30 to even $500 for high-end mods. There are always clones you can order on Chinese sites, but please, for your first mod, try to get enough money to get a new, authentic mod, I can't stress this enough. You don't wanna end up with a non-working device that's gonna get you out of vaping right away.

Try to watch some youtube videos about mods.

Then, you need to buy an atomizer. If you are going from cartomizers, try to take something like a Subtank mini from Kangertech. Subtank mini has it's own bases that you can use, and each costs about $5, and they last 1 month each. It's the best to get into rebuilding your own coils and getting an RBA base for your atomizer. This way, you will save a lot of money, and you can make your coils whatever you like.

There is a youtube video explaining every atomizer build, so this shouldn't be a problem. Just like with everything, there is trial and error, and you will get to the point where rebuilding will be like rolling a cigarette.

Thank you for reading.

Thanks for sharing!
Do you know why these kind of cigarettes are yet prohibited while in the plane?

I think it is due to the fact that the chinese ones exploded a few times... :/

The one I am using now isn't pictured there I don't think, although I do recognise the nautilus tank, which I used to use.

I currently use Endura T18 with the prism tank. I saw a video on it and thought I'd try it mainly because it has a top fill tank and easy to change coil. The coils last a lot longer than the nautilus mini coils were, and the ability to top fill is very convenient for me.

I started off with the classic style you have pictured at the top and in all fairness that was enough to stop me smoking initially. They have small niggles like leaking every now and then and sometimes from the mouthpiece too but they also worked for me. Today you have more choice but I would recommend the T18 to a new vaper, it has some the same qualities that I liked about the classic type: top fill being the main one. As a bonus it also has pass through so you can charge the battery via usb while using it.

Thanks for the post :)
