EOS Tokens Bitfinex Support Reply (US Customers READ THIS)!

### I owned 776 EOS pre-ICO tokens until this morning.  

They were bought very early on when they were first offered for sale.  My account at Bitfinex was opened specifically to purchase them.  A few weeks ago however, due to US government pressure, the exchange was forced to no longer support US customers.  I was not sure what would happen to people like me who already owned the tokens on the exchange however.

### Therefore, I emailed the support team.  Here's their reply that I just received today:

> Thank you for contacting us and apologies for not following up sooner - the sudden increase in new users and inquiries has kept us very busy. 

> Unfortunately all US residents will be unable to use our services at all. So please make sure to move out all of your funds before the deadline. USD withdrawal is not available for the time being. You can move out your funds in a way that you see fit.

### Based on his reply, I highly recommend people who were in my situation to sell their EOS pre-ICO tokens.  Edit: You don't have to sell them.  Just move your tokens off Bitfinex.

There are ways around this of course by using a VPN and opening another account with them.  I'm not willing to risk it at this point though.  I know a lot of people are in the same situation as I was, and I do not want them to lose money.  This issue had been brought up in Discord and on Steemit.chat in the past, but no one had a clear answer.

_Now we have the clear answer straight from the exchange's support_!

Just in case you did not see the original announcement by the exchange, I'll include the primary message content here:

> [Furthermore, over the next 90 days, we will be discontinuing services to our existing U.S. individual customers. We will be communicating further with affected users on timing and specifics. Our intention is to reduce disruption as much as possible for our U.S. customers.](https://www.bitfinex.com/posts/216/review)

### The August 16th deadline has already passed, but I was still allowed to convert my EOS to BTC today to gain more Steem Power.

It is possible that I could have left my EOS tokens there.  With the above support reply along with the original announcement, I was not comfortable leaving an account open with the exchange.  Perhaps I'll buy some EOS in another way soon.  For now though I am happy to have 629 more Steem Power!

Or the whole blockchain project is run by United States government and they're trying to protect their citizens without allowing them to participate in it :-) who knows? As I've already said it just might be a damn good conspiracy theory. And we cannot know it now we will know it only in the future if it reveals itself. :-)

Why you would sell at a loss and not just send to your wallet is a personal investment decision but I don't know why you would suggest others to do so. 

(I am guessing at a loss because if I remember correctly the USD price for the first window was .86 then quickly to 1.26 on day 2 and up further from that point until just recently and one other short time when the market corrected)

I struggle to understand how anyone in the US doesn't have a VPN because of all the tracking. and Vpn's make your connection on free WIFI safer. Anyone wishing to participate in ICO's needs to have one anyway. All for less than $50 a year

I use Bitfinex and have no issues at all with deposits, withdrawals or margin using a VPN and have not verified and have no plans to verify my identity. Nor am I verified on Polo, Bittrex, Openledger, Binance or any of the others I trade on.

I'm just suggesting people in the US get their stuff off that exchange.  They can keep or sell what the want.  My personal choice may not be yours.  Read the email reply again that I got from them just today.  It does not look good for US customers.  I'm not going to trust a lot of money on a VPN either.  

The post was edited too after reading it again.  You are correct.  There's no reason to sell them, but I wouldn't leave them, or anything else, on Bitfinex.
