Custom Knife Order Finished 12-6-19

It has been a great day for me on the farm today. I have finished another knife order. I had no idea that I enjoyed it so much, but it turns out that I love it. Many years ago I went to school to learn about metal. I was learning about how to machine metal and to make precision pieces. It was ok, and it was alot to learn. All over my science was about metallurgy, and the rest of my classes had to do with some sort of machining. I'm not sure that I enjoyed the process as much as I loved the art.

I am glad that I went to school for it though. There is alot of information that I have soaked up, and it all kind of leaks out when I need it. In the case of knife making, I seem to be able to recall information about carbon and the make up of alloys, but I can't remember the details. When I had to learn new skills like heat treating, it all made sense and I was able to pick it up quickly.

I was just talking with Stacie D (@freedomtowrite) about how much I enjoy creating things. When it comes to the knives, it isn't so much about the exactness of it, but the art. I love straight edges and straight lines, but sometimes pushing to make those happen you might lose what the knife could be. 

When I use repurposed material, it comes to me with character. So it isn't so much that I take a blank piece of metal and then make it what I want it to be. Instead, I take the metal for what it is and I open up what it could become. Not just the repurposed material, but I also make these knives one at a time and by hand. Every mark or asymmetrical line is a result of a decision that I have made. 

I come up against the idea of "what looks good" all the time. I completely agree with the notion that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that is why I have my own saying....

### There is a hand for every knife

By that I mean that I may go off on a wild ride making a knife that someone thinks is terrible, but another person may think it is the most amazing thing they have every seen. It always seems to work out!

I do sell my knives, and I ship in the lower forty eight states. Shipping internationally is something that I have not yet done, but the future looks good.  I accept cash, paypal, and crypto!
