[Breaking News] Cryptos Are Down & Tether Is The Reason

A lot of stuff going on in the crypto world today. The latest is that Tether got hacked of 30 Million USD and they are saying that they will not refund that money. 

Most cryptos are down due to this news, Bitcoin is down 5% and Dash is down 21%.

Comment: At the moment the home page is down, could be due to a lot of traffic but I will give you the link to their Twitter. The Twitter commentators are angry and are saying things like

 "This is the beginning of the end, likely to buy a little time and cover what really is going on." 

"Why do you think they are requesting exchanges to stop withdrawal of Tether?"

"BULLSHIT INSIDE JOB. Bitfinex Longs greater than Shorts, this was bound to happen for coordinated dump. Bitfinex market monopoly."

There you have it, I will follow this closely and we will see what kind of impact this will have on the markets. But dont use Tether until things are clear of the consequences.

I think the impact on other crypto (and probably even long-term value of tether itself, as they are hardforking away the stolen funds) will be quite limited. The worst case scenario is if an exchange gets caught sleeping and accepts a lot of the bad tether.

Yeah, I tend to agree, but if Tether would fall apart there will certainly be a bigger impact than a 5% dip for Bitcoin and the other alts. 

Im trying to avoid Bitfinex for the time being at least...

I really, really don't want to make fun of bitcoin advocates. 

I mean that seriously, and it hurts me to hear about honest, enthusiastic, anti-fiat folks getting cheated/trashed.  

Nonetheless, I hope they learn some lessons in realism, objectivity and humility from this and other bitcoin-related screwups.

Naw bitcoin  is no fait. Tether does not deserve to be called a bitcoin related project. It backs it token off usd. Just bc it on top of omni does not mean it loyal to bitcoin. Infact omni is going litecoin hence why there will be using litecoin blockchain.
