Three years ago we got Demon Gaze for PS Vita, a dungeon crawler from Experience Inc. The studio has subscribed to the genre and since then we have received more RPGs like [Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Abyss:_New_Tokyo_Legacy) or [Stranger of Sword City](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stranger_of_Sword_City) . But within the many similarities between the games, perhaps Demon Gaze was the most popular, and that has caused its creators to get back to their subject.

On this occasion our forgetful character , editable in aspect -retrato- and a few more adjustments, wakes up in a dungeon. After a brief introduction that makes of tutorial we are rescued and the world situation is explained to us: a strange tyrant is sacrificing citizens in a kind of magical furnace. In front of him is a revolutionary group that finds in our hero just the best ally: it is a demon gazer . This power has relevance in the plot and the gameplay. Basically, it allows us to absorb weakened demons and dominate them, an aid that will be very useful during the fighting .

### Gameplay 
Demon Gaze II takes place a bit after the events of the original but you can play without any problem without knowing it - we would lose the grace of some cameos -. Of course, it comes with texts in English -voices in English language necessary to enjoy the charisma of the characters, which is one of the strong points; not the story itself, quite predictable and only salvageable by its humor. These dialogues are narrated with the usual static screens , something that can bore players who are not used to visual novels or low budget JRPG.

Like other dungeon crawlers , we are facing a first-person role-playing game with "square" exploration . This means that it is not handled exactly like an FPS, the displacements are made at a certain distance. And the investigation of labyrinths, with their doors locked, is a very important part of these games. A map on the screen will help us to discover the corners that we have not yet investigated.

Throughout the journey we will meet with enemies. These are turn-based combats with the typical attack commands - some loaded, which consume more than one turn - and, as the main peculiarity of the saga, the command related to the demons to recover their demonic form while enhancing their parameters until exhausting a bar. Our goal is to investigate locations-dungeons or other scenarios- activate the confrontation against the boss, and once defeated, add it to our cause.

This will replace the creation of classmates and the class system of the original, since the demons are actually part of the group, and as such have a strategic role ; there are those who are oriented towards healing, take a more offensive role, etc. There are other systems within the game, including the option of giving a room within the mansion that serves as base, increasing the connection by participating in battles, knowing better to demon girls in dating and even with a minigame to look for sensitive areas in the body -which does not reach the spicy level seen in certain RPG-.

One of the advantages of Demon Gaze II in front of many dungeon crawler too complex, designed for experienced players, is that its learning curve is very comfortable . There is a difficulty selector if what you want is a challenge, but opting for the standard level the first enemies will be very affordable. This, along with a more guided development than in the first Demon Gaze , make the sequel quite recommendable for the novices who have not played this kind of role.

The developers have polished the mechanics of the genre with a function to repeat the last action, another one of fast attack - that streamlines all the process of the fight and information of damages - or an automatic movement that takes us to the place that we want inside a dungeon already explored, evading traps and most enemies. Small amenities that will be of great help after the first hours of play.

Throughout the maps we will find some circles or key points where to insert three gems that attract enemies -these gems indicate the type of objects that they can drop-, and when passing the tests we will face the boss. Logically, the first labyrinths are simple and later increase in size, number of floors, traps and secrets. In addition to the increase of demons in our team, we will also get better weapons, armor and elements to customize the protagonist. There are games with a greater edition of the characters, although what we have here is more than enough to please the fans of the role.

Graphically it has improved a bit compared to past dungeon crawler , but not enough to highlight the least in home system, not even in PS Vita . The art of portraits and illustrated backgrounds are acceptable -although we understand that many users will see it as a generic manga style-, high definition suits you well and there are a variety of environments -the music fits in these moments-, but the very limited technical section subtracts charm.

### Conclusion

Demon Gaze II is a good exponent of the genre, adapted for both novices and gamers, offering dozens of hours exploring labyrinths -to which content is added after finishing the story-, meeting charismatic characters and participating in turn-based combats accompanied by a demonic group . It is still not a game for the majority public, but at least it is not particularly confusing.

The weak point of the game is that it does not present anything really new except for small differences with respect to the first title or other productions of the developer. The fight is very classic, the dungeons are the usual ones and the story, except at specific moments, does not stand out either. A pity that being a studio so dedicated to the dungeon crawler Experience Inc. do not try to innovate in a genre that in too many aspects is immobilist. Demon Gaze II is above average and worth playing.
