Chapter 2- The experiment

<p>Mary hardly ate anything when they arrived home, and instead, took a long hot bath to help her relax. She had such an urge to tell Peter what happened but she decided that she was not going to. &nbsp;He would just want to get the police involved and she was too tired to go through all that. She felt like she was in the middle of a spy movie and she laughed at herself for having such thoughts. It was such a ridiculous thought that she laughed at herself. &nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"Who would want to sabotage her research?"</em> she thought to herself. &nbsp;Her mind wandered a bit and she thought about what Peter said in the car. &nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"Perhaps it was time they took a break? Perhaps they should go away this weekend just to clear their heads and when they came back they could continue?"&nbsp;</em></p>
<p>She decided that it was a good idea, and decided to surprise Peter with some tickets to a play in New York that he has been dying to see.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"If they could fly down Friday morning, they could come back Monday morning and go straight to the laboratory."</em></p>
<p>She smiled at herself for having such a brilliant thought but had to give Peter some credit for planting the idea in her head. &nbsp;</p>
<p>She wrapped a towel around her head and put on her bathrobe before going to the kitchen to find Peter. She found him fast asleep on the couch with the television on. She was suddenly excited about the weekend but decided not to wake him. He was tired and he had been working just as hard as she has.&nbsp;</p>
<p>She fetched her phone and the leftover food in the kitchen and sat down on the couch next to Peter. She was wide awake now after the relaxing bath and wanted to book their flights and tickets for the play online. She smiled....</p>
<p><em>"Peter was going to be so impressed with her in the morning."</em> She took a bite to eat and then searched on her phone for the airline website.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"Damn..."</em></p>
<p>She said out loud and Peter stirred. Her phone's battery was about to die and she was too lazy to go fetch her charger. &nbsp;She looked around and saw Peter's phone on the couch next to her. She picked up his phone and started searching the web.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Within minutes she had booked and paid for the tickets and the flights. &nbsp;She was just about to put the phone down when she heard a message come through on Peter's phone. &nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"Who would be messaging Peter at this hour?"</em> She thought to herself. It was past eleven already and she was just about to go to bed. She picked up the phone and saw that it was from an unknown number or at least the number was not saved on his phone. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Perhaps it was the wrong number and opened the text to see. &nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"Everything is in place. See you tomorrow."</em></p>
<p>&nbsp;What a weird text she thought to herself. &nbsp;It has to be the wrong number. Peter didn't tell her about any plans he had.&nbsp;</p>
<p>She put the phone back where she found it and then touched Peter's leg to wake him. &nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"We have to go to bed Peter. &nbsp;It's getting late."</em></p>
<p>Peter groaned and reluctantly sat up to go to bed. Like a sleepwalker he walked to their bedroom and she followed him after fetching her charger in the kitchen so that she could put her phone on charge next to her bed. &nbsp;She did not even think about what happened tonight or about the text on Peter's phone. &nbsp;She just climbed into bed and closed her eyes.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Within minutes she was off to dreamland and all the worries of today were far and forgotten.</p>
