If you have ever seen anything that I do on here you likely already know that a lot of what I do is complain about how Thai businesses attempt to cater to foreigners.... extremely poorly.   you only have to see my [post about an English Breakfast that wasn't remotely close to done right](https://steemit.com/food/@gooddream/another-shocking-ly-bad-breakfast-in-krabi) to start to understand where I am coming from.  

I have succeeded in many things in life.... many times to the point where people admire the hell outta me and always ask my advice.   Well here is a situation where i failed and failed badly.... i mean completely.

I noticed after years of living here that almost all the, really anything involving English had at least a small problem with the editing.  This could be someone referring to "french fries" and "french fried" or even the "Secred Shrine" of Krabi (the last one is actually etched in really expensive marble,) and i started to wonder if these places would like to have this corrected.

A friend of mine who is from England and I put together a company an called it a consulting agency.  It wasn't just to fix spelling mistakes but the intention was to "help them connect with their customers in a cultural way."   This was meant to be a full-service company that could correct all of the nonsensical English on signs and what not but also to fix things like tell people that their English Breakfast is bullcrap and how to do it properly starting with not including hot dogs with them.... EVER.... never ever!

We went all around the community and gethered up the brochures and took photos of building that had a sign on it etc and took notice of the mistakes (it wasn't hard to find, they are everywhere.)   Then we would send letters to the companies and businesses that were written in English and Thai and inform them that your brochure has (insert however many mistakes) and then offered to tell them about it for free so that they could fix it on their own.  Initially this was just a publicity run to get our name out there.  

We also sent these letters to government and temple places letting them know that we would like to fix their mistakes for free.  It wasn't a scam, we really were going to do this for nothing.

I'm not now, nor was I trying at the time to insult anyone for not knowing exactly everything about another language or culture.  I am pointing my finger and laughing at them when they have the chance to ask someone from that culture whether or not what they are about to have permanently etched in marble....whether or not it makes sense.  and for whatever reason.... they don't want to - even though I wasn't going to charge them for it.  

Our venture, even though initially it was meant to be a charity for the public until our name was known, was monumentally unpopular.   Almost no one contacted us to help them but instead simply continued to crank out stuff that was horribly misspelled or didn't even make sense.  

There were only 2 companies that contacted us and eventually paid us for services (this was our plan all along) of changing any future plans to have proper English and our consulting services as far as restaurants were concerned.  The government, despite being basically hounded by us to "please let us do this for you for free".... never responded and just continued to crank out signs such as this gem.

It is worth noting that the two businesses that did contract us for our services, they carried on for a long time and one of them has actually expanded and is one of the most successful small-to-medium businesses in the entire region.  As for the other one, they sold and I don't know what happened but just like the song says... "one out of two aint bad"

That's not what the song says at all.... But basically I wonder what it is that we did wrong??... We were not asking anyone for any money up front and were completely willing to tell them the mistakes they had made for free.  We also didn't shame anyone by telling their neighbors or whatever... it was all very private.  

This company never got off the ground and when i look around today I can see (in Krabi, perhaps elsewhere) it is very very necessary.  I remember the Thai Massage place that had a massive sign that said "Thai Massacre" draped over the street.   Oh dear.  I tried, but no one wanted me... what else can I do?
