I've always been of a rather YOLO frame of mind, even before they'd invented a cutesy acronym for it to put on baseball hats and all. 
I was just thinking how life is passing you by and how many opportunities you're missing, simply because of the automatic assumption there will be plenty of time for that later. But what if there isn't?

*Oh, I won't go now. The weather's not just as I'd like it. It's an unnecessary expense. I'm just not in the mood.*

And I'm sure all those arguments make sense, in your head. It's a bit rainy just now, so why go? Might ruin your shoes. But what if next time this opportunity arises, it's also raining? Worse than now. What if it rains for a week non-stop or a month or six or even, perhaps, a year? Unlikely, yes, but not impossible. 

An unnecessary expense - maybe. But this really depends on what you understand by 'necessary expense'. Are we talking the food you and your family require? Clothes for the kid? That subscription for the gym? What? We have varying understandings of 'necessary' and the truth is that in our privileged world, it rarely refers to food and clothes. There are always side-expenses that we don't even take into account. Are they necessary? 
Sure, maybe it's an "unnecessary expense", but then, why did you think of it? Could it be that your heart would like to do it and is that then, truly unnecessary? Is the happiness it might bring unworthy of the money you'd spend? That's for you to know, really. Only you can tell how happy it will make you and how much you can afford to spare at the moment. But seems to me that since you thought of going in the first place, you'd kinda like to do it.

Not in the mood? Yes, I can tell by that scowl imprinted on your face. But when are you ever? I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude. It's just that you've had that scowl for six months straight now and I'm beginning to think you'll never be. In the mood, I mean. 
Maybe going is just the thing that will *get you* in the mood, did you think about that? Maybe the mood has lost its way and will no longer be arriving. Maybe you gotta stand up and look for it yourself, even though it's raining. 
Better hurry now, the mood isn't too tall and it might get trampled, in the avalanche of people searching for their own moods. And wouldn't that be a shame, to lose it forever? 

Time and again, you procrastinate. You delay decisions and events, no matter how tiny or large, convinced there will be another time for them. But what if there isn't? What if something horrible happens? What if someday never comes, as the song goes? 

But you've decided not to go and I must now respect your decision. I just hope you understand you're not saying 'no' to this particular occasion. You might be saying 'no' forever. It might be a permanent loss. Are you aware of the subtle change between 'I won't go this time' and 'I won't ever go'?  

Are you sure you won't come?

Alright. I'll be back. Maybe. If the river doesn't carry me downstream. And maybe I lose my way forever.
