En nous promenant sur la ***corniche Bonaparte*** à La Seyne-sur-Mer nous sommes tombés, par le plus grand des hasards sur le ***fort Balaguier***. Et pour 3 €/personne (droit d'entrée) nous nous sommes offert une petite visite historique du lieu. La tour de Balaguier est également appelée ***Petite tour***. Elle a été érigée entre 1634 et 1636, pour croiser ses feux avec ceux de la ***Grosse tour*** (ou ***Tour Royale***) qui se trouve en face, à Toulon. <center> *La petite tour Balaguier*</center> <center> </center> <center> *En 1636, l'ouvrage de Balaguier est une tour à canons isolée sur un promontoire rocheux - c'est toujours le cas.*</center> <center> *Depuis 1971, le fort est devenu un musée*</center> <center> *Autrefois, cette salle voûtée servait au logement des hommes. Lorsque nous y sommes passés elle abritait une exposition sur Cuba*</center> <center> *Pour tout connaître de la transformation du fort en musée... et en décor de cinéma !*</center> <center> *Toulon et sa Tour Royale sont juste en face avec, au milieu, la belle Méditerranée*</center> <center> *Terrasse d'artillerie cerclée d'embrasures et surmontée d'un chemin de ronde dont le parapet crénelé abrite les défenseurs pouvant tirer au fusil contre un assaillant proche de la tour.*</center> <center> </center> <center> *L'escalier en colimaçon, bien étroit et pas très pratique !*</center> <center> *C'est en 1672 que la marine a décidé de renforcer l'armement de Balaguier en y adjoignant des batteries basses accolées de part et d'autre de la tour pour décupler sa puissance de feu !*</center> <center> *La bouche du canon. Ce modèle "canon 1845" peut être dangereux jusqu'à 2.500 mètres*</center> <center> *Canon qui tire ***à barbette***, c'est-à-dire par dessus le parapet... et non plus à travers les embrasures*</center> <center>***Le jardin botanique***</center> La tour de Balaguier est entourée d'un jardin botanique qui évoque l'***Odyssée des plantes*** qui a vu l'arrivée, dans la rade de Toulon, d'une multitude de végétaux aux 17<sup>ème</sup> et 19<sup>ème</sup> siècles (néflier du Japon, érythrine, phormium,...).
