reflecting horror,
monsters cackling 
quaking the heart!
an inner voice trembling
a thought of a thousand laughter,
at protruding belly
blessed with many wrinkles
rather than blistering youthfulness*

a bizarre twins 
that keeps lurking
like swollen shadows
in pregnant evenings
shall we radiate smiles?
as they sneer in ridicule?
of successfully failed attempt
of dazzling like the sunshine?*

said our distasteful reflection
smiling tentatively at our sadness
we are our own gloom
a pride as a peacock
should we be!

a time ticking for them to gloat

#### POETIC ANALYSIS AND LITERARY APPRECIATION

This poetically and comically inclined piece is centered on outlining low self-esteem as a result of being overweight, not confident in one's outward appearance and body shaming by the general populace in the human society. There is an ironic tone to the poet persona's voice on the thematic preoccupation and the last stanza experience a sort of anti-climax which definitely suggest that despite how we feel that people feel about us sometimes our decisions is being made finally by what we want.

The poem is a four stanza piece which is irregular in the way it's arranged it has an expression that connotes a rhythmic effect and it contains a lot of alliteration, assonance as well as consonance, when expressed in a song the refrain from the first line of each stanza brings out a musical effect. It is plenteous in line but does not contain a rhyme scheme because it is a free verse. Sarcastically inclined and filled with irony the descriptive abilities of this poem exposes a great deal of simile and metaphor also in its comparison.



Without a doubt, the society is judgemental in it's stances of the way fellow human looks and seem. And this poem humorously expressed this factor in a brilliantly written piece. **The beast in the mirror** Is a representation of how a person is overweight and it's only in the mirror that people comes to a full realisation that they're not sought after, not wanted and people often laugh at this person they are. However at the end there is a prevalence of self will over the opinionated perception of people.
