TIL I learned that sometimes a pain in the shoulder is just a pain in the shoulder...

Over the past 3 months I have been having some pretty considerable pain in my left shoulder blade. It came on slowly and I attributed it to possibly just a strained muscle or something of the sort. At first it would hurt off and on with some periods of time when it didn't really hurt at all, but over the last 2 moths it got to the point where it was hurting a good amount, and hurting all the time...

So I did what most guys would do... I ignored it and hoped it would go away :) 

However, after 3 months of whining and complaining my family members eventually convinced me that I really need to have it checked out by a doctor. So, of course rather than actually go see a doctor I pulled up "Dr. Google" and started to do my own research... the possible causes were a little alarming to say the least. A muscle strain seemed to be the most common, but the next couple possibilities on the list were different types of cancers and heart problems... yikes! Reading those were enough to get me to make the next available appointment. 

At the doctor's office he seemed pretty convinced that I had some kind of compressed/pinched nerve. He couldn't know for sure so he ordered an EKG, an X-ray, and finally an MRI. Fearing the worst, I sat for the next couple days awaiting my results... Finally the doctor called me saying the EKG was normal, the X-ray was normal, and they couldn't really see anything out of the ordinary on the MRI... well that was a huge relief! 

So on one hand today I learned that I don't have any of those serious issues to be concerned about but on the other hand I am not any closer to finding out what exactly is causing the pain... 

Maybe if I just ignore it for a little longer it will go away ;)

I have not had any professional massages no... just my significant other who does a pretty good job herself :) But yea I may need to look into something deep tissue or acupressure or something like that... thank you for the tips!

Well as an acupressurist, I would recommend that... also look at quadrants of the body.  As example your shoulders relate to the hips, so if it is the left shoulder look to the right hip for release.  

Maybe sitting too long at Steemit?

Go to a notable Chiropractor.  About ten years ago I experienced major pain in my left shoulder. I endured it for about six months. I couldn't even raise my right arm, One day a co-worker patted me on the back and I went right to the floor writhing in pain. I had been to several doctor who did the same thing as you. X-rays, MRI. They prescribed pain medication, heating pad , ice packs  as well as ointments. Finally, I took the advice of the co-worker who sent me to the floor, and went to a chiropractor she knew. After a preliminary exam, He asked me to reach the back of my neck with my good arm. I immediately felt a golf ball sized knot in my neck bone. He said I had a twisted vertibrate. He said it would take six months to get back to normal. But that night, after some back and neck adjustments (cracking), I was 90% better with minimal pain. Check it out. I don't know why the "doctors" didn't see the knot.

Interesting... yea that is weird that a twisted vertebra didn't show up on the x-ray or MRI... Glad it was able work for you though! I am going to see what I can get covered by insurance and see what kind of help I can find... Thank you for sharing your experience and of course for reading! :)
