Women deny their gentility when they attempt activity that is excessively self-in regards to or autonomous. As we have seen, dark women are condemned for apparently having done this effectively; white women remain under a directive not to take after their illustration. There is some distortion in this claim, yet very little. Not at all like the dark colonial whom Fanon depicts with such poignancy, women qua women are not presently possessing a substitute culture, a native culture which, regardless of the possibility that respected by everybody, including ourselves, as firmly second rate compared to the overwhelming culture, we could in any event perceive as our own.

Our relative nonappearance from the higher culture is taken as evidence that we can't participate in it. Hypotheses of the female nature should then be presented to endeavor to represent this.
