I know, I know, it's there for poetic logic, but, are new mirrors not transparent and breakable? :P

I always like the term "hairline cracks" when talking about a mirror, because it also fits the hairline of a person, and it also puts me in mind of people getting creases and wrinkles, as those "cracks."

I do like that final stanza in the first section, where it reveals "you" is the narrator.
Or is it?
For there is quite a bit written of not recognizing the person in the mirror, of no longer recognizing *yourself*, whether it is because you've grown old and the physical self no longer matches the mental image, or because you took wrong turns and it's a "Who am I?" sort of moment.

Or because sometimes "we" are a collection of others we know, or that we treat someone else as our mirror, or as our mirrored self, or they used to be.
And now they've changed.
Or, we changed, so we recognize that our projected selves (which is to say, how we perceive other people) changed, but it's because they are our mirror images.

And our mirror images, they are us in reverse anyway, rather than us.

The "distortion" of time is another question. And it is just that - a question.
If we like it, we say time aged us as old wine. But if not, then it distorted us.
And that means we come with a preconceived notion of what is true, of what is right.
And we don't accept the mirrored image, or ourselves, based on them being us. But only if they meet some predetermined criteria.

I do think, "I've only just seen you," to be the most striking line though, how *striking* it is to not recognize yourself, how much it can shock you from your previous mindstate.

Now to the second part. Saturn is the father of the gods. Saturn is the Titan of Time.
And this poem is very much about time. Both the poem as a whole, and the second part, about how time presses the grape.

We spoke of aged wine, right? But it is not so pleasant when you consider yourself to be not the liquid, but the grape.
And this, combined with the sort of glam-shot photo certainly makes one think also of physical beauty, or even mental one, and how time is the great equalizer (Death's just the sidekick).

Time, that leech. Pilfering your pockets, robbing you blind.
Literally.
