기성문학은 끝난 걸까요? 이젠 정말 장르문학이 대세인 걸까요?
장르문학이 상상을 초월할 정도로 뜨고 있습니다. 제가 공모전에 도전하는 분야도 '로맨스'라는 장르문학입니다. 일반 로맨스, 로맨스판타지 이렇게 두 가지 분야로 도전 중에 있습니다. 이젠 장르가 주류를 이루었다고 봐도 무방할 정도로 장르문학 작가들이 어마어마한 수익을 내고 있습니다. 일부 장르문학 작가는 월 천만원도 번다고 하니, 뭐 말 다했습니다. 이정도로 돈이 되니까 기성작가들도 장르문학으로 몰릴 정도라고 하니 장르문학의 전성기라고 해도 무방할듯 합니다..

우리나라가 그동안 너무 순수문학만 문학으로 쳐주긴 했습니다. 전세계에 등단제도가 일본과 우리나라 딱 두 나라만 있다고 하니 뭐 말 다했습니다. 등단제도가 있는 일본보다 더 심하게 순수문학을 하는 작가만 작가 대우를 해준건 사실입니다. 그런데 이제 등단이고 뭐고 웹소설이 대세입니다. 웹소설 작가가 순수문학 작가보다 수백 수천 수만배를 더 벌고 있는 상황이니까요. 완전하게 역전된 것이죠.

그런데 꼭 판에 찍어낸듯 비슷한 내용에 비슷한 흐름은 뭔가 아쉽습니다. 로맨스 분야는 죄다 환생이고 죄다 빙의입니다. 제가 '흔한 빙의소설 여주인공'이라는 소설 줄거리를 다 짜고 있을 정도니까요. 다른쪽 장르문학은 안 봐서 모르겠고, 로맨스는 거의 90%가 빙의 아니면 환생이라고 보면 됩니다. 해도해도 너무할 정도로 치우침이 심하죠. 그런데 사람들은 이런 소설에 돈을 내고 봅니다. 이유를 모르겠습니다. 이유를 모르니 제가 예선탈락하는 건 당연합니다.

장르문학이 대세가 된 건 스마트폰의 보급이라고 보는 시선이 강합니다. 한국의 장르문학 역사로 올라가자면 PC통신 시절부터 가야 합니다. 로맨스로만 보자면 '엽기적인 그녀'로 PC통신을 뒤흔들었던 일이 있었고, 외계어로 가득한 한글파괴범에 표절대마왕 귀여니가 그 뒤를 잇습니다. 그 뒤를 나하가 이어야 하는데, 나하는 스팀잇에서도 알아주는 비인기 작가라서 앞으로 40년 쯤 후에 언급될 것 같습니다.

장르문학을 대표하는 웹소설을 읽지 않는 사람이라고 해도 웹툰은 많이 볼 것으로 생각합니다. 웹툰은 만화책 시장을 완전하게 재편했습니다. 요즘 누가 종이 만화책을 봅니까. 대부분 웹툰을 본다고 보면 됩니다. 스마트폰의 보급은 이렇게 문화를 송두리째 바꾸고 있습니다.

그렇다면 기성문학은 정말 끝난 걸까요? 기성문학과 장르문학의 중간에서 아슬아슬하게 줄타기를 하고 있는 제 소설들은 정말 영원히 당선이 안 되는 걸까요? 저는 기성문학의 미련을 버리고 개나 소나 쓴다는 빙의와 환생 로맨스를 써야 하는 걸까요?

요즘 환생과 빙의는 로맨스 분야가 아니라 거의 인기 웹소설의 주제인듯합니다.  
다들 여유가 없으니 먼치킨히어로를 동경하게 되고, 
과거로 환생해서 지금 가지지 못한 기회를 잡아 보고 싶고,
게임스스템에 익숙하다보니 판타지 소설이 일반 소설보다 이해하기 쉽다고 봅니다.
