<div class=text-justify>One of the challenges about learning more about Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies over the last couple of years is that knowledge about security becomes increasingly important to protect one’s assets.  It puts the importance of online security front and center as the stories of losses due to insecure practices and even ignorant one are concerning given the early stages of adoption we currently find ourselves in.  However, it has also increased my awareness about physical security and privacy as well!<p>

As the family prepares to move from our home in the coming weeks (almost days now), we have been packing boxes and doing plenty of cleaning to only take what we really need as I personally tend to horde and accumulate plenty of junk over time.  I am an organized administrator at heart so my financial records are broad and are well archived.  However, over time, the ability to have more access to the same records online has improved accessibility to data and also reduce the need to save paper in an effort to save the trees as many say.  I select electronic communications at every chance I have despite the continued concern of online security.

Despite the move towards more electronic communications, I have accumulated years worth of financial records which I have really never needed to use.  Therefore, I decided to do some cleanup and dispose of many of the these records.  I will now only hold on to the last 6 months of financial data as I know they are mostly available online if needed.  My focus on security has also extended to privacy as well as the stories I hear are scary in general.  I now decided to purchase a document shredder to ensure that these financial records are disposed of effectively as well.

It was a long process but I am comforted by knowing that the information is not really out there although everyday we hear of more and more breaches which I think have made our individual data so compromised that it doesn’t matter what we do to protect it.  Instead, it is more about being proactive to watch for red flags like credit checks and other hints of unauthorized access to accounts or data.  It is interesting that being involved in Blockchain shows the power of transparency and given the cryptography around the technology, the potential there is to make these concerns really go away.  In my opinion, it makes the success of Blockchain inevitable over the long term.</div>
