I usually like to create time to read books, you know they always say *"readers are leaders"*. Besides, good writers are known to be readers, I encourage you reading this post now, to read more.



So, I read the book *"THE SMART MONEY WOMAN"* by Arese Ugwu recently and it was an interesting read. Apart from the fact that it is interesting, it is full of lessons, lessons quite essential for young  people. I personally got this 5 lessons from the book and I've decided to share here.

 **Always save 20% of your income**

No matter how tough it is to save, no matter how much financial responsibilities on your neck, you have to make it your duty to save 20% of your income. Cut back your spending and save more. You must imbibe this.

**Maximise your earning potential**

You must work towards having multiple streams of income.  Knowing what you want from life, helps you to determine to achieve this. Also, invest aggressively, there are investments opportunities that are certain to maximise one's earnings.

**On relationship**

**Don't be with a man who is dependent**

So there is this couple in the book, the wife is the one that works and earns while her husband invests in wrong deals and cheats on her. It is enough offense, that he is jobless and dependent but in addition to that he cheats, flirts and withdraws money from their joint account without her consent. I don't need to tell you how their story ended...

**Even if your husband is Aliko Dangote, have your personal source of income..**

A woman must have her personal money...not the one given by her husband  but the one she earn on her own. It is not ambition, pride or arrogance, it is being wise and smart. 
In this book, a rich family suddenly find themselves in debt, the wife totally depended on her husband...She had a real tough time because of this and she learnt the hard way..

**Good men still exist..**

Although I personally believe that men like Tsola in the book are hard to find, I still believe that they exist. They may not exactly come the way we want them or come in a very attractive package. So ..wait for it...

**Have a professional mentor or guide...**

There are people who study business, investments, stock, finance and risk managenent. Make people like this your guide.  Attending management meetings and enterpreneurship meetings aids connections too.

**On finance**

**Do not live above your means or income...**

So Zuri, the lady at the center of the story had an apartment on the Island where she pays millions yearly for rent alone, she wines and dines with friends in the most expensive reataurant, takes uber when she is not driving her car and wears only designers. She buys aso ebi of different prices yet earns 600,000 naira monthly. Tell me how she won't acquire debts..

It is best to check your bank statements and analyze how  you spend so that you can cut out unnecessary spendings.

In conclusion, avoid getting financially stranded, have goals, maximise your income, be smart and accountable.
