If you have this voice daily speaking in your favor, you will enjoy sweet rest. When you engage in all sorts of evil and damnable practices and yours becomes the case of a wounded conscience is more terrifying than the heat coming from any external source. You can decide to stay away from the heat from any particular location, but how can you stay away from the heat emanating from within you? Nothing breaks peace as much as a wounded conscience. David enjoyed a good conscience with God and men until he slept with Uriah’s wife and master minded the killing of Uriah. From that point; his life was never the same again. His peace got broken and household trouble pursued him barefooted from his throne. A singular activity you may say; but it turned out to become a harvest of multiple problems. We understand from Scriptures; that a man going into his neighbor’s wife is like one carrying fire in his bosom. You can’t carry fire in your bosom and not be burnt. Such was the case with David, and “had I known” became his cry. A good conscience is to be enjoyed while a wounded conscience is to be endured. Good conscience is sponsored by wholesome activities, activities grounded in truth. Wholesome activities are things you engage yourself in and your conscience turns around to congratulate you. This inner voice keeps reassuring you that all is well. If you succeed in wounding your conscience through awful practices, this voice follows you all around telling you that all is not well. No matter the soothing words you seek to hear from outside, the one coming from inside stands to condemn you. Has your conscience been wounded? Do not seek to seal it by continuing in evil; because it could backfire on your eternal well-being. Address your situation with the truth of God’s Word; because only truth can heal a wounded conscience.
