Local Dish: Gado-gado at Bali Eco Bayad Resto

I was in a local restaurant and acommodation  in a village called Bayad. This restaurant serve international and local food. And in this review I would like to introduce you to the local dish that I had in the restaurant when I visited few days ago.

This dish is quite common throughout Indonesia. It's called gado-gado. It may come in different presentation. It could be more traditional that you could find in small stalls in corner of villages. You could find it in the menu of big restaurant.

Gado-gado means mixture of a lot of things. In this sense, it is a mix a various vegetables and sometimes egg. The vegetables used in gado-gado are: sprout, cabbages, carrot and or potatoes. SOmetimes you could also find slice of tomatoes in gado-gado. Refering back to its name, it's gado-gado, it's a mix of everything.

This mixed of vegetables is then savoured by peanut sauce. The peanut sauce is not just peanut, but it is a mixed of spices. This including chili, shrimp paste, salt, garlic and special ingredient called _petis_.

When I was in the restaurant, I chose gado-gado for my main dish for lunch. I especially like the peanut sauce of the gado-gado. Well, I like it because it was spicy.

When we buy gado-gado in small stall, usually the sauce is already mixed with the vegetables. So, it is better to eat it right away. In restaurant, usually the peanut sauce is served in separate little bowl. And the vegetables are served on the plate. This was what I got when I was in the restaurant.

Gado-gado is favourite of many Indonesian people. If you ever have a chance to visit Indonesia, try the gado-gado. You may like it.
