Learn to Slow Down and Zig Zag Every So Often
If you're trying to learn how to drive in the rain, you've probably heard that zig zag is a good way to go. However, you might not know that slow down and zig zag can be just as dangerous. When conditions are rainy or windy, try to stay off the road if at all possible. If you absolutely must drive, slow down and zig zag.

Driving through puddles, on mud, or in rain is dangerous for several reasons. First of all, it's difficult to judge distances accurately when you're in the middle of the mud or rain. Second of all, your car is likely to slip and slide a lot. Third of all, it can be extremely dangerous to try to drive in these conditions.

One of the best ways to avoid zig zagging and slow driving is to practice on mud holes and in rainy or windy conditions. Start out by driving slow and cautiously through these conditions. Get comfortable with the idea of being safe rather than good. Get a car that's capable of moving slow and still. Get someone who knows how to drive in the rain and mud and let them do the driving while you take a break and read a book.

If you really must drive fast in the rain, look for a dry surface where you can stop and slow down without sliding. Park your car in a shaded area. Practice your navigating skills by looking up and down the road to see if you are facing any hazards or other interesting things ahead. Keep looking ahead so that you can take evasive action if needed.

If you take your car on the road when it's dry, be aware that you'll have to take extra care driving on wet roads when you don't have the car balanced and running properly. The tires will act like a sail and you could slide off into the street. If this does happen, try to steer the car in a safe direction and stop the car abruptly.

Don't forget to check mirrors frequently when driving to avoid getting into other vehicles when zig zag. Take care when making maneuvers at high speeds. Try to keep your car pointing directly ahead and not to the left or right. When negotiating turns, look both ways and make sure that you're not cutting across lanes or opposing traffic. If you come to a complete stop, don't start the car again until you are ready to do so.

While you can control how fast you drive, you cannot keep from zig zagging when driving at certain times. Certain times, such as early morning or late at night, are prime slower driving times. If you must drive at these times, slow down and zig zag where necessary.

You may be surprised to find out that slowing down and zig zagging every so often is legal in some states. Check your state laws to see what the minimum speed is. You don't want to get caught speeding, no matter what state you are in. Even if you think it's wrong, being ticketed can damage your license and make it harder to get a new license. Besides, it's not very fun to slow down and zig zag all the time. Learn to keep your driving habits in check so you can get where you need to go safely and quickly.

You can also slow down in busy traffic without speeding. In some cases, drivers don't see other cars until it's too late. This means that you need to be a bit more patient and let others pass you by. Don't be too eager to weave in and out of traffic because other drivers will notice and they might decide to speed up. Just keep moving with the flow of traffic by slowing down a little every so often.

If you do feel like you need to zig zag and slow down, avoid the busy intersections. Try to make your slow time even slower and more cautious. One good example would be to make your way to work through an intersection that has few cars on each block. That way, you'll get the best of the traffic, and you won't have to worry about slowing down and zig zagting around when ever you see other cars coming your way. You can also make slow times even longer by making your turn at the most unlikely times.

Don't just stick to one tactic for slowing down and zig zagting. Use different techniques to keep traffic moving and you'll find it even more fun to do. The more strategies you know, the better off you are going to be. Use the tips above and get moving on that road to getting where you want to go faster!
