Apple has always been a secretive company. Their strategy to not reveal anything until they officially unveil their products and services at launch events has been quite successful. It was something that was started when Steve Jobs returned to Apple in the late 90s. 

During Steve's time at the company, the secrecy was at a really high level. This led to audiences at the launch events and elsewhere, being pleasantly surprised when Steve himself revealed revolutionary products and services.

These days, most of the stuff leaks in advance and there just isn't that "wow effect" anymore from Apple's products. Anyways, they still manage to surprise from time to time and the company still tries hard to hide what they are working on.

Recently, a report stated that Apple is 'secretly' working on some sort of a satellite technology. This seems quite puzzling at first because it seems so out of the ordinary for the company but could it be cooking up an insane new revolution?

According to Bloomberg, Apple has a secret team, consisting of a dozen engineers, that is working on satellite-based wireless data beaming technology. The team is allegedly working on satellite and antenna designs that will be deployed in five years time. 

One could infer a lot of things from this report. The first thing that comes to mind is that Apple may be working to do away with the need for wireless carriers. If this happens, this could be the biggest news of the next decade. Our iPhones would simply connect to satellites and there would be much faster and clearer communication.

The second thing that comes to mind is that Apple may be following SpaceX's plans by sending a constellation of satellites in orbit to establish a worldwide satellite-based internet service. It seems like many top companies are getting into this field and it is ripe for revolution! This would be a big deal too.

The other thing, that sounds totally bland, is that Apple may just be working on technology that helps track our phones and other GPS devices better. It might be building the next generation of location tracking technology. 

Well, whatever it is, we will eventually come to know about it. The many leaks and rumours should provide the pieces of the puzzle till then.
