But the study published by the Cancer Prevention Research journal and created by Dr. Darren D. Browning from the Georgia Cancer Center is just the first step on a road that could lead to saving the lives of thousands of patients that have a high risk of developing colorectal cancer. > “Giving a baby dose of Viagra can reduce the amount of tumors in these animals by half.” * Dr. Darren D. Browning The scientists managed to prove that the famous blue pill reduces the rate at which polyps, small growths on mucous membranes, grow in the tissues. These polyps may change into dangerous tumors over time. The active substance of Viagra, sildenafil, acts similarly to linaclotide. But linaclotide isn’t suitable for long-term use as it causes diarrhea. And it is the long-term use that is important as Viagra can’t help with getting rid of existing polyps. It is useful only for prevention, not treatment. And how exactly does it work? To simplify it. In cancer, you could say the more new cells are getting created the higher the chance of something going wrong. Viagra helps the production of cGMP. CGPM is a substance that suppresses excessive cell proliferation. This is certainly an interesting thing you've brought to my attention and I'll surely be keeping an eye out for further developments on this. But i will need a lot more molecular mechanism explanation to be convinced on how this works to be honest. >Viagra helps the production of cGMP. Actually, no. Viagra (sildenafil) is a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor, predominantly an inhibitor of PDE 5. PDE is the enzyme that breaks down cGMP. So viagra merely prevents the breakdown of the _already existing_ cGMP. It doesn't increase the production of cGMP. But nonetheless, thanks for bringing this research article to my attention. This will be wonderful if it goes through a successful human trial phase.
