Tour de Pakistan Day 3

The next day we woke up and decided to see the historical Lahore fort, Badshahi masjid and Minar-e-Pakistan, Minar-e-Pakistan was built in the past century in 1940, while the other two were made by the Mughals, Akbar and Shah Jehan lived there during their specific reigns. All three of these monuments were within the same area so we didn’t have to travel too far to explore them. Other than that we were craving for Lahori food I needed a special glass of Lassi while the local dishes needed to be feasted upon.

After having breakfast at the hotel we headed towards Minar-e-Pakistan first, historically this place has a lot of significance in the independence of Pakistan in 1940 a protest was held at the same location in which Quaid-e-Azam announced the two nation theory in which the Muslims would get a separate state after the British had left the subcontinent. Which would later be known as Pakistan, basically this was the first public occasion in which such an idea was announced in forming the foundation of Pakistan. The building was formed to honor the place.

In front of that is the Lahore fort and Badshahi masjid, Lahore fort is a palace in which the Mughals first lived after which Ranjit singh took over it and ruled Punjab from here and we can find history of both the era here. Our guide explained the rules of both the emperor rather exceptionally and we all were quite interested in knowing about it. The Mughals had stairs made for Elephants on which they rode and reach the sitting place, in front of which was a garden where Anarkali and other girls would perform for them and fountains were made by using piped that were bent for making the flow of water fast and forming a type of a fountain. The level of extravagance for these emperors was so much that Shah Jehans wife wanted him to bring the stars of the sky, hence he made a room for her on which when a light or back in the days a fire would be lit, the whole room would light up like the sky. The carvings of the walls was simply exceptional. There were darbars or courts on which they would give orders of justice for the people and listen to there complaints.

The badshahi masjid was built for the emperor to pray, here again he would ride on an elephant, the magnitude of the mosque is such that thousands of people could pray in it and it was made solely for the purpose of his prayer. Can’t even believe what kind of treasures they had, still the Badshahi masjid stands and we prayed Asr there it was quite a wonderful experience.

Then came the food scene of Lahore, first we went to Feeqa Lassi, this is a traditional drink made from yoghurt and milk this makes a thick and sweet drink the best part is it’s preparation in front of your eyes. The taste was just heavenly I’m a Lassi fanatic and have tried it all around Karachi but this was something special.

After that we had Chikar Choley another Lahori tradition this means Mushy Chickpeas made with special spices, this was quite hot and consumed with Roti and salad. A unique taste for even us so you guys would definitely also like it if you happen to visit Lahore anytime soon.

In the end I would say there is a saying “Jinne Laore ni Wekheya who Jammiya nai” The one who hasn’t seen Lahore isn’t cool. That is absolutely true the food scene is absolutely amazing and places to visit will keep you wanting to visit and explore the beauty of this city, especially if you are into history.
