*I do not know how about you but while being a part of European Union we experience hard time recently. There are many nationalists parties in some European countries who would like EU to fall apart, the best example, of course, UK. We can see how much impact the country feel from being separated from Europe and many simple people suffering from it. One of the Party that driven Brexit was UKIP, but once Brexit happen the party leader left it because his main goal was achieved.*

*Currently there are two main pillars are Germany and France. Many in Europe know French-German friendship and support that is established throughout decades. When a week ago I heard from my hubby that French far right party " National Front" with the leader Le Pen who were against EU and wanted to finish French-German relationship passed the first round and on the second it was an Election between current President Macron and Le Pen that made me worry. I immediately thought about Trump and Boris J. and have already started to think that this is an end of EU. Luckily french people always surprise me with their mentality and common sense. Even if they do not like much what Macron did but they did not like Le Pen to win and that is what we have to do.*

*When I think about UK, with its PM Johnson and everything that he did: broke the rules of quarantine, lied to Parliament, had parties when people were strictly advise to stay isolated and not visit even the funeral of their relatives, despite of everything he is still at power and does not like to leave his PM post. The Conservative party members who care more about their places in politic and the money that they might loose if they stand up. That is very frustrating.*

*I do not like politicians but I am pro such strong leaders like Emanuel Macron. Really wish him good 5 years!*

Macron is a very good leader, he did tried a lot to negotiate with Putin maybe even if the war in Europe goes worse @stef1

I just can't believe still that we have to deal with this war with Putin, we (Putin) should have learned from the past but he is making his own world and it now threatens the existence of our civilization. 😢

Yes, I agree with you, he is very good leader, currently there is no other candidate who would be able to replace him even though some poor people do not like Macron but it is not possible to please everyone and people have to think globally and not only about their one benefits.

I also like that he is trying to get through to Putin with his conversations, to convince and influece him. Hope that will work.

Most of the French are not happy with the Macron government, but between him and Marine Le Pen, people have opted for Macron despite feeling that they were choosing "between the plague and cholera" as they themselves said.

I believe that was difficult choice this time, I had heard about that spirit of french people and was really anxious about the result of Election. We all may not like something that our government does and this quote :

 "between the plague and cholera" 

is really a true but maybe that also made many to decide for Macron too. I hope he will do something differently coming 5 years to gain his reputation back.

Just like you, I don't really care so much about politicians/politics…policy, on the other hand, is important.  And good policy in Europe, is a united Europe.   Europe has had about 1,600 years of competing European alliances and wars…since the fall of the Roman Empire.  

And this is the first time, in that 1600 years, beginning in 1990, with the help of NATO, the European continent has been united enough to decrease the probability of a “Intra-Euro War” (European states fighting against each other).

You only have to go back 80 years and two generations, some of those folks are still alive today,  to appreciate the death and devastation that a fragmented European continent can bring.  

Humans can do awful things to each other when they're not cooperating.   We're not the top species on the planet because we're nice.   So it is very important to encourage the better angels of our nature.   Being united, cooperating, being nice to each other, is extremely important for progress.   I just hope we haven't forgotten that yet.

Electing moderate politicians that are not populists is really important.   Long may it be that way in the EU, the US and everywhere else.

Absolutely sharing your opinion, we European are very spoiled having more than 77 years peace, because there were always conflicts in Europe and so many wars. But thank to EU we are having freedom to travel to each country, trading, studying in Universities and working. This luxury we have to keep and give to our next generation. Strong EU and strong NATO is something that keeping peace.
