低所得者差別に対応する必要があるのでしょうか

この投稿のきっかけになったのは、イギリスのある学校が発表した高級ブランドジャケットの着用禁止命令です。その学校の生徒は制服を着用する義務がありますが、ジャケットやコートは自分の好みで選べます。「モンクレアー」、「カナダグーズ」などの高級ブランドのジャケットを着用していた生徒はグループを組んで、安物のジャケットを着ている生徒をいじめたり差別したりしました。

そのことが明らかにされた時、学校当局は「モンクレアー」、「カナダグーズ」、「ピレネックス」などのジャケットを禁止しました。そのブランドのキッズ用ジャケットは400ポンド(約5万7千円)から1000ポンド(約14万5千円)までの価格で販売されていて、生徒の家族のほとんどには手が届かないものです。

その禁止命令がイギリスの社会で物議をかもして、BBCに報道されました。賛成反対はほぼ半々になっていますが、低所得者差別にどう対応すべきかという問題は今後も続いてくと思います。低所得者差別をまったく支持しませんが、現代社会の中では、よく相手を地位や持ち物で評価しています。

社会人になる時、その優勝劣敗の価値観を避けられない生徒はさらに挫折して、うつ病を発生する可能性が非常に高くなると思います。個人的には、社会構成を変化させないまでに、そのような規制が無意味だけでなく、逆効果も及ぼすことだと思います。

今後日本でも起こりそうな問題ですね。
どの時間軸を見据えて議論するかで答えが変わってきそうですね。「臭いものに蓋」をしたとしても長期的に見たところで現実は変わらないですね。

そうですね。貧富の所得差が拡大している状況の中で、そのような問題が多くなりそうですね。
古くから世間の中でお金がある人がいるし、お金のない人もいますね。それに慣れるしかないと思います。

日本でもお高い制服を採用した学校があると話が話題になりましたね。
どうあるべきかはわかりませんが、高い服を着た子がグループで、庶民をいじめるって言うのは、親がそう日頃から口にしてないと出てくる言葉ではないと思います。心はとても貧しいです。

そうですね。そういうことについて聞いたことありました。でも、イギリスの学校と違って、その学校の生徒の皆さんは同じ制服を着用したので、差別の原因がなさそうだったと思います。

イギリスは歴史的に階級社会であるので、いまだにその文化が根強く残っています。

個人的に、ベーシックインカム制度はとても興味深い制度と思います。しかし、イギリスのような階級社会の中で導入すれば、低所得者に対する差別意識がさらに強まる気がします。
