I think every parents in the world teach their children to be kind and helpful and to lend a hand whenever possible, specially for people who are in need of it. That’s what my parents taught me too and I have always taken that advice to heart.

Every person meets thousands of people in their lives and a small portion of these become closest to us. As an ideal human being, we should try to help out anyone, be it strangers or loved ones. Of course, we automatically tend to do more for our loved ones than some random person on the street and that is totally understandable.  

The thing that I want to talk about today however is that how all your efforts towards a loved one can go totally unnoticed by them and how it hurts when that happens. These unsaid sacrifices are not unknown to any of you, I’m sure because we’ve all sacrificed something or the other in our lives for someone without them even knowing about it, and ultimately it goes unnoticed. 

# If Only They Knew…

Every relationship has its ups and downs, be it between a father and a son or a husband and wife. When everything is going great, we are least bothered about the balance, because why would you even care if you are happy and on cloud nine. It is during the pitfalls that we become more aware of these things. 

In times like these, one can’t help but think if only they knew how much you have sacrificed and continue to do so while they act ungrateful and take everything for granted. It really hurts during those moments because you expect the same from them too and when you don’t get it, you begin questioning the fundamentals of the relationship itself. 

But then, there is another aspect of this I start to think about, and it changes my thinking completely. As we all know, there are two sides of the same coin, so what if we are only considering one side of it with our one dimensional thinking. Let’s discuss this second side. 

# They Might Have The Same Story

What if they have sacrificed a lot for us too and we too don’t know anything about them? That is very possible and they might be expecting the same out of us but because they don’t know about our sacrifices towards them, they might end up thinking that we are ungrateful and taking them for granted too. 

Also, if the sacrifices that we make remain untold, is it really anybody’s fault? How is someone supposed to know things without being told about it? All these things are really complicated and sometimes I wonder why people don’t just make things easier for themselves and for other people around them. 

I think communication solves all these problems. There is no harm in telling your loved ones what you did for them. Just don’t make it sound like you have done them a big favor or something but is is still completely fine that you went out of your way to do something for them. This will only strengthen the relationship as they will realize how much you care for them.
