 <hr> I found this question as I was snooping around the web and it sparked some interest in me, so i though about writing on the subject from a spiritual perspective. <hr> # Genetic Engineering Everything in this world resonates at a certain frequency, including our bodies, our molecules, cells, organs and such. That's the magic behind the uniqueness of our being, or at least one of the magical aspects. When the resonance frequency changes, chemical reactions start to form, for example: > Let's say you are listening to some hard music which uplifts you, the frequency changes that of specific parts of the body, hence adrenaline, dopamine is released to reinforce the stimulation. Every part plays a role in our emotional bodies too, everything is like a Swiss watch, fine tuned to work like butter. Here's another example: > When a cat gets castrated it lowers it's activity and gains weight, meaning the body stops producing specific chemicals that stimulate parts of the nervous system. <hr> # Genetic Engineering in two lights I personally see two sides to genetic engineering, which are: SIDE A: We use genetic engineering to overlay our existing genetics to releave the stress over the normal functions of its mechanics, which means doing more with less energy, providing us with the capability to prolong life to some extent. SIDE B: We use genetic engineering to replace currently body segmrnts like in the movie "Ghost in the Shell",which might lead to chemical imbalances and all sorts of emotional and mental issues that may arise from the process. > Also I need to state that we are adaptable towards our life conditions so there is a chance that the body might adapt on all levels to the replacement. Overall this is a speculation that I think stands to be proven. I'm not against genetic engineering, that is if it's well approved on an emotional, mental and physical level, otherwise this might stir up some unwanted side effects as the years pass. The only type of genetic engineering I would find acceptable is that of editing out genes related to inheritable diseases. And even that could lead to abuse. Sure, using less energy and living longer sounds really nice, but I don't think it would be used for our benefit. If you have in mind something like going into retirement fit and healthy and enjoying those extra years, I'm afraid that's utopia. What you would be allowed is be fit to work for more years and retire like at 75, maybe even 80.

Genetic engineering can't manipulate consciousness because consciousness in primary form is pure egsistance. Consciousness can use vehicle for experience some reality. That vehicle can be manipulated like we see on this planet, but consciousness can't. @vangelov there is no simple answer for it. I could write book about it, not just one comment :P

It appears that genetic engineering will continue to accelerate in complexity, and what you have described will occur eventually. I don't think anyone should be able to use it to create 'good citizens' though? Good how exactly?

Why not in the principle, but which basis to use to select the "good genes" ? Who makes this selection ? :) We need to first understand how evolution works and what can be considered as positive change before we can even put a toes into this. Love and natural selection might just be the best thing we have today :)
