<html> <p>Last month I posted about asking advice on whether or not I should do a <a href="https://steemit.com/nature/@yvesoler/citizenscienceshouldistartaninterspeciesresearchproject-95d8ggd982">Citizen Science project</a> around the effects of Interspecies Music--using the <a href="http://www.musicoftheplants.com">Music of the Plants</a>. While there is great enthusiasm, it is not clear what we could even test for. I have been talking with various colleagues and interested parties about possibile parameters with only marginal consensus. I would love to do something like Altheimers and Autism, but what would we "measure" for that? For this first test, it would be best to find something more objective. <center><img src="http://www.thebluediamondgallery.com/handwriting/images/hypertension.jpg"><br /> Hypertension by <a href="http://www.nyphotographic.com/">Nick Youngson</a> (CC BY-SA 3.0)</center> <h2>What if we tested Blood Pressure?</h2> <blockquote>Hypertension is another name for high blood pressure. It can lead to severe complications and increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and death.[1]</blockquote> <p>One idea that came up was testing for hypertension. We are currently working on a formal, scientific study with a team of medical professionals and researchers from Damanhur and Turin specifically for this. While that study is based on testing with a series of instruments, we could collect blood pressure data from a very large pool of people, regardless of whether or not they currently have hypertension.</p> <h2>How would we Test it?</h2> <p>If we want people to be able to listen to plant music in their homes, then we need to find a way to test blood pressure in the same location.</p> <p>I did some research and found <a href="https://www.getqardio.com/qardioarm-blood-pressure-monitor-iphone-android/">Qardio</a>, a blood-pressure arm band that connects to an app on your smartphone. This would make it super easy to test blood pressure before and after a session of the music of the plants. The device even records the measurements, so people can send us their results at the end of the testing period.</p> <p>I was thinking that for a small fee (or maybe we could partner with Qardio or do a crowdfunding) a person could get a kit with instructions for the study (to be done personally or in the case of a healer/doctor, on others), the Qardio, and a questionnaire to be filled out for every session. We could ask for measurements month for X period of time. The idea would be to mirror as much as possible the study we are doing, even though we know the results will be less precise.</p> <p>Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from those of you with experience with scientific studies and/or citizen science projects. </p> <h3>Could this work?
