weird. We did the exact same thing. My family was very religious as well (so much so that when a church closed down, they rescued all the statues of the Saints and we had them sprinkled around our back yard, basement and in nooks and crannies in hallways..) We did the birthday cake, read the story of Jesus's birth and sang happy birthday..
