 Nachdem ich ein bisschen in der mexikanischen Karibik gechillt hatte, war es langsam Zeit nach Guatemala zu fliegen. In den drei Jahren, in denen ich so nahe an der Grenze gelebt habe, hatte ich nie die Gelegenheit, das zu tun. Für mich fühlte es sich an wie ein wahr gewordener Traum, als ich endlich mit mein Ticket in nach Guatemala City in meinen Händen ins Flugzeug stieg. _Después de relajarme un poco en el Caribe mexicano, era hora de volar a Guatemala. En los tres años que he vivido tan cerca de la frontera, nunca tuve la oportunidad de hacerlo. Para mí fue como un sueño hecho realidad cuando finalmente subí al avión con mi boleto a la ciudad de Guatemala en mis manos._  Es hatte sich gelohnt einen Fensterplatz zu reservieren, denn während des 2-stündigen Fluges konnte ich die Riviera Maya von oben aus in ihrer ganzen Pracht sehen. _Valió la pena reservar un asiento junto a la ventana, porque durante el vuelo de 2 horas pude ver la Riviera Maya desde arriba en todo su esplendor._ https://youtu.be/i_MRdUXR6TE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MA55ksQStSY Von Guatemala-Stadt aus, fuhr ich für etwa 10 US-Dollar mit einem Shuttle direkt nach Antigua, denn in Guatemala City gab es für mich nichts Interessantes zu sehen. _Desde la ciudad de Guatemala, tomé un servicio de transporte directo a Antigua por alrededor de $ 10, porque no había nada interesante que ver en la ciudad de Guatemala._  Jetzt musste ich nur noch 1,5 Stunden auf einer holprigen Straße überleben, bis ich schließlich an meinem Hostel ankam, wo ich [Cécile Morgado](https://www.facebook.com/CecMorgad/) treffen würde, meine Freundin und Fotografin, die mich auf diesem Teil der Reise begleitet hat und so nett war, einige ihrer Bilder mit mir zu teilen. Antigua ist berühmt für seine gut erhaltene spanische Kolonialarchitektur. Die ganze Stadt wurde sogar wegen der vielen Ruinen und kolonialen Kirchen, die noch von der ehemaligen Hauptstadt Guatemalas übrig geblieben sind, zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe erklärt. Bevor ich hierher kam, wusste ich nicht, dass dies tatsächlich der meistbesuchte Ort in Guatemala noch vor dem Atitlán-See und Tikal ist. Viele Ausländer (die meisten US-Bürger) wanderten in diese schöne Stadt aus und eröffneten Hostels, Restaurants, Bars, Sprachschulen usw. Die Straßen sind immer noch in einer sehr schlechten Verfassung und die Häuser sind alle bunt. Wohin man auch geht, kann man die koloniale Atmosphäre spüren, gutes Essen (auf den Straßen oder in den Parks) riechen, etwas Kultur (Museen oder Kirchen) finden und freundliche Menschen antreffen. _Ahora solo tenía que sobrevivir 1,5 horas en un camino lleno de baches hasta que finalmente llegué a mi hostal, donde me encontraría con [Cécile Morgado](https://www.facebook.com/CecMorgad/), mi amiga y fotógrafa quien me acompañó en esta parte del viaje y tuvo la amabilidad de compartir algunas de sus fotos conmigo._ _Antigua es famosa por su arquitectura colonial bien conservada. Toda la ciudad ha sido declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO debido a las numerosas ruinas e iglesias coloniales que quedaron de la antigua capital de Guatemala._ _Antes de venir aquí, no sabía que este es realmente el lugar más visitado en Guatemala, incluso antes del lago Atitlán y Tikal._ _Muchos extranjeros (la mayoría de los estados unidos) emigraron a esta hermosa ciudad y abrieron hostales, restaurantes, bares, escuelas de idiomas, etc._ _Las calles todavía están en muy mal estado y las casas son coloridas. En todos lados se puede sentir la atmósfera colonial, oler buena comida (en las calles o en los parques), encontrar algo de cultura (museos o iglesias) y conocer gente amable._     Mein erster Eindruck war, dass sich alle hier kennen und sich gegenseitig helfen. Es ist eine wirklich freundliche Atmosphäre, aber total touristisch ... ein bisschen zu viel für meinen Geschmack. _Mi primera impresión fue que todos se conocen aquí y se ayudan mutuamente. Es un ambiente muy agradable, pero totalmente turístico ... quizás demasiado para mi gusto._ # Ich ging herum und erkundete die Stadt. Dies sind die 5 schönsten Orte, die in Antigua einen Besuch wert sind. # Exploré la ciudad. Estos son los 5 lugares más hermosos que valen la pena visitar en Antigua. ## 1. Arco de Santa Catalina  Der Bogen von Santa Catalina ist Antiguas bekanntestes Wahrzeichen und wahrscheinlich eines der meist besuchten Orte Guatemalas. _El Arco de Santa Catalina es el monumento más famoso de Antigua y probablemente uno de los símbolos más conocidos de Guatemala._  Dieser historische Bogen, der über einer belebten Straße thront, wurde in den 1690er Jahren erbaut. Sein leuchtend gelber Stein, die ordentlichen weißen Verzierungen und die französische Uhr bilden das perfekte Foto - besonders, wenn der Agua Vulkan im Hintergrund auftaucht. _Este arco histórico, encaramado en una calle concurrida, fue construido en la década de 1690. Su piedra amarilla brillante, sus adornos blancos y su reloj francés arman la foto perfecta, especialmente cuando el volcán de Agua aparece en el fondo._ Die Atmosphäre ist toll / _El ambiente es bonito:_ https://youtu.be/deXGjVEi3Vk ## 2. Iglesia de La Merced   La Merced Church ist vielleicht die schönste Barockkirche der Stadt und sicherlich eine der am besten erhaltenen. Jeder, der sich für Kunst, Architektur oder Design interessiert, sollte einen Besuch abstatten, da die Kirche prächtige Stuckarbeiten aufweist, die sie dem maurischen Einfluss zu verdanken hat, der zu dieser Zeit in Spanien herrschte. _La iglesia de La Merced es quizás la iglesia más bonita de la ciudad, y sin duda una de las mejor conservadas._ _Cualquiera que tenga interés en el arte, la arquitectura o el diseño debe visitarlo, ya que la iglesia cuenta con un magnífico estuco que muestra la influencia morisca, por su presencia en España en esos tiempos._ ## 3. Cerro de la Cruz   Zu Fuß braucht man ca. eine halbe Stunde um den Cerro de la Cruz - "Hügel des Kreuzes" zu erklimmen. Von hier aus hat man eine super Aussicht auf die Stadt und kann ein Foto mit Vulkankulisse machen. _A pie se tarda aproximadamente media hora en subir al Cerro de la Cruz. Desde aquí teníamos una gran vista de la ciudad y podíamos tomar unas fotos impresionantes con paisajes volcánicos._ ## 4. Convento de las Capuchinas    Das Kloster Las Capuchinas wurde 1773 durch ein Erdbeben schwer beschädigt und stand dann zwei Jahrhunderte lang leer. Sorgfältige Renovierungen in den letzten Jahren ermöglichten uns einen Einblick in das Leben der Klosterschwestern, die auch ein Waisenhaus und ein Frauenhospital betrieben. _El convento de Las Capuchinas fue seriamente dañado por un terremoto en 1773 y fue abandonado durante dos siglos._ _Las renovaciones en los últimos años nos permitieron echar un vistazo a cómo era la vida de las monjas del convento, que también dirigían un orfanato y un hospital para mujeres._  Es ist ziemlich cool, sich in diesem Gebäude zu bewegen und verschiedene Räume und Gänge zu erkunden. _Es muy agradable caminar alrededor de este edificio y explorar diferentes salas y corredores._ ## 5. Catedral de Santiago  Genau wie das Kloster von Las Capuchinas wurde die Kathedrale von Antigua durch das Erdbeben von 1773 zerstört und nur teilweise wieder aufgebaut. Von außen merkt sieht man das nicht, aber von drinnen sieht es so aus: _Igual que el convento de Las Capuchinas, la catedral de Antigua fue destruida por el terremoto de 1773 y solo ha sido parcialmente reconstruida._ _Desde el exterior no se nota mucho, pero una vez adentro, se ve así:_   Mit zerfallenden Säulen, moosbewachsenen Wänden und nur dem Himmel als Decke ist es ein dramatischer und gespenstischer Ort. _Con pilares derruidos, paredes cubiertas de musgo y solo el cielo como techo, es un lugar dramático e inquietante._   Alles in allem kann ich verstehen, warum viele Touristen hierher reisen, um die Kultur kennenzulerenen, Spanisch zu lernen oder den Rest ihres Lebens hier zu verbringen. Toller Bericht und wirklich schöne Bilder. Leider haben wir bis heute keinen Fuss auf den Amerikanischen Kontinent gesetzt, hoffe das ändert sich noch. Ohja das hat es in der Tat :) Oh.. Hab gehört an der Grenze ist es gerade nicht so toll. Generell Mexiko an der Grenze würde ich dir nicht empfehlen. Nimm doch lieber nen günstigen Flug zumindest bis Guadalajara oder so und von da kannst du dann unbesorgt mit dem Bus weiterziehen :)

Ja genau, direkt an der Grenze ist es wirklich nicht so toll. Wuerde da auch nur mit meiner Freundin hin gehen, die von dort kommt. Aber sonst sollte man nicht rueber gehen. Der Plan war genau wie du sagst, einen guenstigen Flug zu nehmen, aber mit der Schwangerschaft wird das leider nicht mehr moeglich sein ;) Muss dann eben die tollen Bilder bewundern ;)
