If something needed to get done, he trusted that you were able to accomplish it. He didn't stand over your shoulder or keep bugging you about whether or not it was done, he just trusted in your ability.

Of course if you didn't get it done you had to have a pretty darn good reason for why it didn't get accomplished. He just had faith in you and trusted in you that you would take care of it.

I have had other bosses that are quite the opposite feeling they need to take over and administer every aspect of your job. This can make for a very negative work environment and someplace that people just generally don't enjoy working at.

Taking all of that into account, I would much prefer to be the kind of boss that trusts and believes in his employees. I would very much like to "sit back" and let them accomplish their goals on their own.

Especially as I grow older, I acknowledge that the way I think things should be done might not be the best or most efficient just because that is the way things have always been done in the past.

It would be my pleasure to see my employees be successful and know that they achieved that success because of something they came up with and saw through to the end, not just because they followed some instructions.

As a boss, will you command every major actions of your employee?
