Female have an interest on people's observation, checking behaviour than mechanical study in general . So it is the preferable subject for them.

2. Another thing is the cultural effects. As most of the cultures around the world points psychology as a 'female subject to study' . So male student do not feel much interest in it.

3. For a career: As people used to go to the female psychologists very often. So male psychologists are not dominant in this field.

4. Comfort zone: People psychologically gets more comfort from female than male. So females are dominant in this area I think.

This is like a circle. One is pushing another reason and it is working like this for many years. That's what my observation is.

Hope it helps!!

Why are most psychologists actually female, just an obeervation ?
Question
"

json_metadata

According to some sources, the ratio is effectively about 70% F-30%M.

In other areas, such as pre-school ed or nursing women "dominate" for as much as 90-10 or even higher in some cultures. The disparity has many-fold explanation, depending on how you perceive gender inequality (or whether or not you believe there is such a thing).

On the one hand, we have what we may call natural tendencies or vocations, which allegedly would account for most people’s decisions. Based on that, women are supposed to feel inclined to certain areas following their natural instincts or qualities. We know it gets more complicated than that, but based on that premise and licensed through religious and/or political views a whole system was raised and established that allowed those vocations to continue manifesting themselves.

Thus, historically we have a series of beliefs that led to policy making that ruled women out of education entirely, but progressively, after so much proving them wrong, women were granted limited access to certain programs in colleges and universities that kept areas such as engineering or natural science strictly populated by men. In some cultures, this has not changed that much.

Whether nature or nurture is responsible for the gender distribution across discipline would the subject of another debate, but in this particular case, I think that there is a combination of both aspects with a certain “natural inclination” facilitating the high number of women in the mental health professions.

Empathy is one quality that a mental health professional must have and it has been proven that women, regardless of their upbringing (machista society or liberal environment), tend to be more capable of showing empathy than men (Christov-Moore, Leonardo; Simpson, Elizabeth A.; Coudé, Gino; Grigaityte, Kristina; Iacoboni, Marco; Ferrari, Pier Francesco (2014). "Empathy: Gender effects in brain and behavior". Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews. 46: 604–627.).

In any case, I, being the father of 4 girls, want to believe that, except for some activities where physical strength and high risks prevail and condition the kind of professional to do the job, boys and girls can do equally well in most professions. If all professions or occupations were presented as equally profitable, attractive or honorable, and if all children were given the chance to develop their talents and inclinations regardless of gender, we may have a different ratio in mental health and many others professions, but still biology would dictate certain orientations.

Why are most psychologists actually female, just an obeervation ?
Question
"
