Great post! When I was younger I would lay down on the bed and look at the ceiling. There was a small black spot. I tried to lay dead still but "mentally" to crawl into that hole. I guess that is in a way meditation? I am not sure, but that part of your article spoke to me. Thank you for sharing!!

Yes I think so! I think Buddhists see that level of concentration as the first stage in meditation - and whatever prop you use, be it your black spot or a candle flame, serves the same purpose. I think philosophy and meditation are interlinked - both understand the power of our minds as tools for understanding the world and seek ways to hone its power.

Wow, wow, this sentence gave me goosebumps: "both understand the power of our minds as tools for understanding the world and seek ways to hone its power". That is exactly how I see philosophy. I struggle to meditate due to a lot of reasons, but philosophy in a way is my meditation, i.e. struggling with tough questions and arguments. I want to open a bakery with a philosophical practice in it. (I am planning on doing my master's and PhD in philosophical counselling.) The skills and tools that we need to overcome life's constant threat of change and loss of security, is lacking in most people. I think philosophy in a way can help people overcome life's challenges. I really hope to help people who struggle with this angst that life gives us, but meditation can help with this as well! Thank you for the powerful comment :). Greetings from South Africa :D

Your idea of a bakery with philosophical practice is absolutely awesome. I’ve never come across philosophical counseling before but it is exactly the kind of area where I see philosophy adding a whole lot of value and exactly along the lines you mention. I totally agree that philosophy gives us tools and skills to deal with life’s challenges. I’m going to be following your progress with great interest via Steemit :)
