 The release of Bitmain’s Equihash ASIC miner has been a matter of intense concern for the Equihash-based mining community- with some seeing the arrival of these ASICs as a natural evolution for a PoW-based network, while others see it as heralding the end of mining decentralization. This diversity of perspectives has certainly been present within our team as well, which has led us to tread carefully and hold off on establishing a path forward until we’ve done sufficient due diligence and have rigorously debated every option before us- from staying with the status quo (i.e. Equihash 200,9), to considering other Equihash parameters like 144,5 and 192,7 — to exploring more radical changes like SHA3 and the upcoming ProgPoW. In truth, we are still not yet finished with that due diligence process- but we believed even an intermediate update would benefit the community, and we have achieved enough consensus within the Core Team to decide that we will *not* be staying with Equihash 200,9- as the status quo would quickly lead to a scenario where the network hashrate would be dominated by ASICs from one vendor. The majority of us did not see that as conducive to decentralization of the network. However, the timing of this inflection point is uniquely unfortunate for us as we are also very much engaged in a major rebase of our protocol code (I.e. bringing our source code up to date with Bitcoin)- and we are very much determined to launch this rebase in Q3 as planned. In order to accommodate a PoW algorithm change in the most efficient and least disruptive way possible, Bitcoin Private will be changing our PoW through a hard fork that coincides simultaneously with the launch of the rebase. Why the Rebase is Worth It It would be difficult to exaggerate the significance of the rebase effort and what it means for the future of Bitcoin Private. Rebasing Bitcoin Private off of the Bitcoin codebase will allow us to maintain complete and ongoing feature parity with Bitcoin and any of its future innovations. Through the rebase, we will not only get full Segwit support, but integration into the Lightning ecosystem and all of the opportunities for commerce that entails- from interoperability with other Lightning-enabled coins and applications, to the convenience of atomic swaps. The launch of the rebase is the vehicle by which we will cement our unique lead amongst the Bitcoin forks, and will mark the fulfillment of a destiny embodied by our coin’s name- to be a Bitcoin in both brand and substance, without compromising our gold standard privacy and our place in the privacy movement at large. We’ve been extremely excited about the potential this endeavor holds, and the next Community Update will focus on detailing the progress we’re making towards the Rebase effort. Closing thoughts Having the Core Team operate out of consensus is easier said than done; doing so can require a lot of debate and questioning, and can be energy-consuming for all involved. But while consensus-building can be challenging and often slows things down, a core belief of this project is that there is wisdom to be found in the consensus of a council- and that we as a project are better off for it. Nevertheless, we thank the community for their ongoing patience; we are genuinely looking forward to sharing further details surrounding the PoW algorithm situation and the continued progress of the rebase. The development team acknowledges the existence of the fraudulent coins, that were created thanks a hole in the network's code. They are now planning to hard fork their blockchain and remove shielded addresses at all the hidden coins, including the legitimate ones. There's a big chance people will lose coins because of this decision, and there's also a change people will drop support after this fiasco. </p> <p>The two million scam coins were created during the early days of the Bitcoin Private blockchain, when they forked their network from the regular Bitcoin network. It's believed that someone close to the development team, or perhaps even an insider, noticed the bug and decided not to take action.</p> <p>Bitcoin Private doesn't believe a developer, who goes by the <a href="https://github.com/BTCPrivate/BitcoinPrivate" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Github (opens in a new tab)">Github</a> nickname of airk42, has made the mistake on purpose. They think a third party discovered the bug and abused it. </p> <p>Either way, Bitcoin Private has requested exchanges to close deposits and withdrawals on BTCP trading pairs. The coin is available on HitBTC, Crex24, TradeOgre and the Turkish exchange Sistemkoin. </p> <img src="https://www.nederob.nl/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/BTCP-BTC-XVG-XMR-comparison.png" alt="" class="wp-image-1651"/> <p>The whisteblower on this story was <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="CoinMetrics (opens in a new tab)" href="https://coinmetrics.io/bitcoin-private/" target="_blank">CoinMetrics</a>. The believe 1.7 to 1.8 million illegitimate coins now exist in shielded addresses, which guarantee total privacy. Reportedly 20 thousand legitimate BTCP coins (currently valued over 34 thousand dollars) is also shielded. Around 300 thousand of the illegitimate coins has already been traded on several exchanges. Bitcoin Private is planning to remove all shielded coins for its blockchain, annihilating the illegally created coins that are still hidden. </p> <p>The outcome of this hard fork is crucial for the future of Bitcoin Private. Ideally it means the world continues as if nothing happened and BTCP gets its renewed blockchain. ### Déjà vu is a feeling of familiarity, (the feeling of having "already lived through" something) is a feeling of recollection. - Wikipedia.  That describes exactly the way I feel right now when it comes to Bitcoin Private (BTCP). Back in April the price of BTCP seemed to be flowndering with no real support to speak of. It hovered briefly at a low of around $14. Panic seemed the order of the day and FUD was rife. Perfect conditions for an entry point were ripe. So that's what I did - bought more BTCP. Buying BTCP at those prices with no significant exchange support felt like running through the muddy trenches of world war I in underpants! It's a vulnerable position to say the least. The price then suddenly spiked and moved north properly. Before taking a sip of my proverbial coffee - the price was at $60 and it did so with no real news. So what caused this FOMO? ## Theory One; Those in the know about an impending Large/r exchange listing bought a lot of BTCP. Is this inside trading ? - No - you would do exactly the same had you known or suspected a large exchange listing to be imminent. And to be fair - HITBTC had always said that they would list - and they did. I took that bet. ## Theory Two; Well there isn't one and this article would seem silly without a second theory so lets just go with theory One.  BTC is about to turn North as there is clearly support at around $7100-$7500 and looking at the yearly chart, numbers 1;2;3 seem very important as do A;B;C. Don't let these numbers and letters fool or confuse you because I put them there to make the chart look and sound well.....very technical! I hope you agree? Jokes aside, one can clearly see a strong vertical wedge forming on the yearly chart and a break upwards is most definitely very imminent. In fact, I would go so far as to say that a break out of BTC north is within a week or two away. Keeping this in mind, all or most atlcoins will be pulled upwards with a strong BTC bull run.  ## BTCP Dejavu This brings me back to that familiar feeling of Dejavu - did I not just say that ? Ok, so looking at the BTCP yearly chart I could not help but notice the similar mini flags that formed which in this case I have labelled "X" & "Y". I used these letters because A,B,C were already taken on the previous chart and they also sound very technical so hopefully this will convince everyone of the technical nature of this indepth analysis! But then on a slightly more serious note, If "X" was a signal of Pre-fomo® - then the extremely similar "Y" pattern should be noted! ## Good news imminent? The Development Team Lawyers have just recently finished the Memo Papers proving that BTCP is not a security - which certain exchanges require for listing. This means that exchange applications from the BTCP submission staff will be resubmitted. In turn I would bet my donkey that the good news of a well known exchange will announce listing BTCP soon. Kucoin and Bittrex already have working wallets - so I will leave you to decide what happens next? ## BTCP Price Prediction: Lets just argue that due to the previous paragraph - some in the 'know' begin accumulating Pre-Fomo®, then pattern "Y" will repeat pattern "X". In turn this will cause real FOMO. The BTCP price has been very stable within the 'global current crypto short term bear market' holding steady at around 0.0030 sotashi. This shows and maybe even proves that the HODL Force is strong with this one. With a decent rebound in BTC around the corner and it heading toward $10 000 again, I would predict BTCP making a significant move upwards and well beyond $60 & 0.0060 very soon. I predict the first moves will begin this week. Let's wait and see
