A Potential Steemit Hiatus For The Next 3 Days - Running My Second 48 Hours Race

For the next 3 days I may be more or less off Steemit. The reason: I'm running my second 48 hours race.

The first one was in 2015, in Athens, and I covered a meager 203 km, but I'm proud I finished it, given the conditions (mildly injured knee and severe hypothermia). I really wanted to run this race in Athens again and some of you following me for longer than 6 months may remember that, at the beginning of the year, I even posted some of my training logs. But then life happened and I had to give up that race.

But I didn't give up running, so I signed up for another one, hoping events will be more permissive. An although life was a bit agitated lately, I'm happy to report that I managed to put together what it takes for me to participate in my second 48 hours race (time and travel money, that is).

The race will start Friday morning at 9 AM, in one of Timisoara city parks, and it will end, obviously, Sunday at 9 AM. The lap has 1.2 km and we will do as many laps as we can, that's pretty much what the race is all about. There will be a resting area and basically everyone can stop whenever he or she wants, but that means you're losing time. Precious time.

I've been training for more than 9 months for this event and I'm confident, but, from previous experience, at these type of events anything may happen. I already saw the weather report announcing low temperatures - which is actually good - and rain - which is actually bad - but hopefully it won't be such a nasty combination.

My only concern is the "blister situation", or the fact that, at previous ultras, I've been starting to develop some nasty blisters on my soles starting around km 100. I've been doing quite a lot of testing in my trainings and I think I found the perfect combination of ointment, socks and shoes that will not end up in a blister war. But then again, my longest training run was only 60km, so everything may happen.

If I will have time (and battery, and internet connection) I may post some pictures from the race, but don't expect anything fancy: these races are more like a zombie apocalypse, with people barely crawling (especially in the second day) than something dynamic and speedy.

And just to save you the time of typing the question on everybody's lips: "if it's a zombie apocalypse, why the hell are you doing it?" - Well, because it really helps clearing my mind.

wow fantastic post @dragosroua, i am following you from about two month's but i don't know that you are a athlete as well and i am glad to read that you are not only athlete but you are a marathon runner amazing man, well you have a great stamina then,  i also like to mentioned the quote from Emil Zatopek that "If you want to run, run a mile. Appreciate the meme, but 203km in 24 hours is a disappointing result. If you walk the entire time, you get around the same distance. The injury and hypothermia kept me outside the track for about 14 hours. Anyways, it's in the past.

For blisters, what has worked for me is tight socks and loose shoes.
I've also read a bit about [Gurney Goo](https://www.google.co.nz/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjZhvCzhbfWAhUDoZQKHd_DD-IQFggoMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gurneygears.com%2Fgurneygoo&usg=AFQjCNG4CVbHdDa-OXL27so-vDNXpRj-fw). it is supposed to be really good.

And if Steve Gurney uses it, it must be doing something. That guy is just inhuman.

I'll be thinking of you over the weekend, while I'm sitting inside watching the rain, and getting fatter and slower, wishing I could be out running, somewhere, anywhere. :-)
