 Don't Panic! You are all going to see a drop in your rewards for a few days while the new system finds its balance. This is what @steemitblog had to say about this particular change to the system: 'One of those changes is to use a 30 day moving average to determine how much Steem should be distributed daily in order to make the rewards more stable and enable users to more reliably predict the amount of rewards they can earn on a day-to-day basis. One consequence of this is that as the protocol switches over to this system today (the beginning of the 30-day period) rewards will be unusually low for the next couple of days. However, donβt fret, this is temporary and rewards will steadily increase as the system reaches equilibrium. This is a one-time event as a consequence of switching to this more stable system. We appreciate your patience.' The Steemit Team ___ I accept this willingly in the knowledge that we must embrace change if we are to grow. What I find slightly harder to accept is the lost payout from my three posts yesterday which all dropped to zero payout at the moment of hardfork implementation. I imagined this $20 would somehow be returned but 8 hours on this does not appear to be the case. So, a total of around $20 worth of Steem has gone missing somewhere. ## But where? Something tells me I am not the only one who is going to have this complaint today, so I wonder what is the total amount of lost Steem? And I wonder too where has it gone? Perhaps someone might be able to shed some light on this for me? The value of steem seems to be holding steady around the $0.17 mark now, so I wait with anticipation to see if these new changes effect the growth of our most beloved cryptocurrency...

According to @abit, most of it is gone. We'll get a fraction in about a week. Then we have to wait a month while the reward pool builds up. Oh, and payouts will be much lower, but steady. Woo.hoo. Tough luck on the lost Steem. He doesn't care about fundraisers getting clobbered, so sad to say, you're not going to have much luck recovering the loss. If I sound frustrated and angry.... good guess.

He is not right. The rewards on posts were reset based upon the 30-day rewards pool. So, your post will be paid out at the end of the 7 day period based upon total vote value according to the rewards pool which will be 7/30 days full but not all the rewards pool is being distributed so that the pool is not emptied. It is a balance between filling the pool and paying out rewards. Filling a 30 day pool AND distributing rewards is going to be a balancing act which will take at least 3 months - depending upon the tap mix they employ! The rewards on live posts as at HF17/18 seem to have been thrown into the 30-day fill up - a kind of taxation!
