<p>Website hosting can be described as a service that ensures your site (your domain name) is visible to your target audience. You can think of it as renting property online and on this property you can build your online business.&nbsp;</p>
<blockquote>A <strong>domain</strong> name is your website's name. It's is the address that browsers can enter into the search section of Google so that they are directed to your website.&nbsp;</blockquote>
<p>Remember that your website and your domain are two very separate things. Your website is the collection of pages you have added to your domain - and that's why we refer to domain "hosting".&nbsp;</p>
<p>You can opt to host your website yourself or you can approach a hosting company to provide you with this service.</p>
<h2>Hosting a Website Yourself</h2>

<p>Hosting the website yourself is an option if you have a good general knowledge of website administration skills. You will need to have the correct equipment available to you; this includes a web server and a permanent connection to the internet.</p>
<p>Most individuals choose to leave the hosting to professional companies. Even if they have the expertise and equipment, it usually makes more sense to transfer this procedure to a 3rd party who can monitor the website 24/7.</p>
<h2>Choosing a Hosting Provider to Host your Website</h2>

<p><strong>Most individuals or businesses select this option.</strong></p>

  <li>A professional Web Hosting company should provide the following services:</li>
  <li>24/7 online support – ensuring that your site is always available to viewers</li>
  <li>FTP access - so that you have access to your site for updates</li>
  <li>Email Accounts – e.g. name@company.com</li>
  <li>An online control panel which manages your site</li>
</ul>
<blockquote>When researching web hosting providers, you will notice that the fees they charge will vary, often greatly so. It is important that you select a company that offers a fee you find acceptable while keeping in mind that the cheapest option is not always the best option.</blockquote>
<p>And there you have it - in a nutshell, that is. Web hosting, servers, domains, and website are far more intricate than the information I have shared with you. But still, this will give you a basic idea of how a website works.&nbsp;</p>

Hosting is such a mission if you have to do it yourself! It’s just so much better to go with a managed service or using a cloud service provider 

Even though I don’t like the fact that we have this type of centralization it’s still pretty convenient! 

I was hoping we’d have blockchain based hosting soon with substratum but that project seems to be dead now
